3 Generations at Paul Sullivan's Pond

We hunted Saturday with Paul Sullivan of Burbank Goose Club for a 3 generation hunt with my father, nephew and my son. Paul was a very gracious host and all had a great time. My dad really enjoyed spending the morning with his grandsons and watching them shoot the Ithaca 37s. This was my nephews first hunt and I think we created another hunting partner. My son shot his 37 20 gauge for the first time, I shot my 16 and gave my nephew the 12 for the day. They burned a LOT of powder and kept the dogs busy. The weather wasn't exactly ducky, but it was good enough that dad didn't get cold and we all stayed comfortable.

Paul runs a first class operation.  My dad has some health issues so this was a bit of a challenge for him but he had a great time.  We have some very special memories from this weekend.

Cool to see the whole family out together.  I know I treasure the days my son gets to spend time in the blind with my dad. 

I love seeing the pics from the hunters who spend the $$ to do it, it's the constant posting Paul does that gets really old.  Just as long as we don't end up with a Paul's Pond update each and every day of the season on this site.  There's enough of that crap on the 'Fuge...

General,

I hear what you are saying.  This was a one time shot for me and the memories that were created are priceless.  It will likely cut into my hunting the rest of the season, especially with gas prices what they are now but it was well worth it.  My dad hasn't hunted since I was about 14 or 15 and this was likely the last time we will get to spend a day in the blind together.  Hold on as long as you can....

thats cool. its always best to take a new hunter into a respnsible environment for their first hunt. kinda starts em out in the right direction.

I totally agree that there is no better way to just enjoy the time with each other.  no hassle of getting up at 2am or fighting with the sky busters. 

I did virtually the same thing a few years ago and took my family and my dad on a guided steelhead trip.  Seeing him get to watch his grandkids catching fish and just enjoying the fact that we were all together doing something we all love was priceless.  He still talks about it all the time and it was nearly 3 years ago.

 That's great and sorry to hear about his health problems. It's a very good way for your to remember you and your dad. A life time memory for him and with the pictures no matter what you spent it was worth it ten times over.
 AT my age I can see that memorys are the only thing left.

 Are you using roll your own or did you buy the shells for the  16ga. For a while I thought that the 16ga may make a return but the guns were just 12ga with a 16ga barrel doesn't seem to be a lot of ammo around. I think if they would have made true 16's it might have had a chance. I gave my 97 16ga to my son. I think I paid 25 dollars for it(no I didn't get it new Otto 1)

I found some Bismuth 16's online, they were pretty spendy but I didn't shoot much on saturday.     I generally only use it for upland and have lots of lead for it, but the non-tox stuff is hard to come by.  I really enjoy shooting it and will probably take it out a time or two again this year for ducks.  I have all the stuff to reload too if I need to, just haven't done it the last few years.
