Shipping Gear Out Of State?

I'm going to be hunting CO this year and the gas prices are going to dictate that I fly to Denver. How do you guys get all of your gear to where you're going if you fly?

It will cost you about $2.00 per pound to use USPS plus insurance. Mailed lots of stuff to Alaska that way but at a higher rate.

Be sure to give extra time so it makes it.

Did you price UPS ground? Thanks for the info. I've been considering ground shipping.

That was ground shipping. Not cheap anymore.

I just check multiple bags at the airport.  Some airlines allow multiple checked bags for free when you fly first class.

I fly to MO near every year for the WT hunt.  I still have gobs of FF miles from my working days so I fly coach on the way out and pay.  I can get 1 free bag on the way out from my Alaska Air credit card and that's all I usually need with a carry on and small bag.  I bring a collapsible cooler with me also.  I fly first class on miles on the way back and then can fill the cooler with 45 lbs of meat and be under the 50 lb limit.  If I have more meat, I bring another cooler back and pay the $100 for the third bag.

I have a slight advantage as I keep a rifle/ammo and a bunch of my bulky items at a buddy's place out there.

Southwest used to allow 2 free checked bags and a carryon.  Haven't flown them in awhile though.

When I hunt Alaska everything fits in my luggage, with the exception of fish/game. Usually take a wetlock box up full of goodies from here (prime rib, land Jager, chicken, etc.) and is one of my checked bags. Have a collapsible dolly that my big suit case, gun case, and wetlock box bungee onto, then wheel my carry on with the dolly. Inside my suit case is a dry bag that all my stuff goes into for the boat ride to hunting camp. In the event more than 49.9 pounds of fish/game comes home I go buy another box and pay the extortion price to fly it home with me. Last year my box was right at 48 pounds!

I shipped most of my gear UPS for a hunting trip once & it cost a little more than checking it on the airplane.

Echo what has been said .
Check it....I got up to Ak using a tote stuffed with most of my gear in a dry bag, keep it under 100lbs. And my hunting pack stuffed full was my carry on... probably weighed 70lbs...
Rifle in hard case with clothes stuffed around it...easy..

Way cheaper than shipping.

I’m curious why you think it will be cheaper to fly ? Do you have access to a vehicle down there or are you renting one. What’s a round trip ticket cost to Denver. We’ve looked at flying a couple times but by the time you figure all the little stuff in it’s not that much cheaper or sometimes more.

It is made by California Innovations.  I got it at Costco, but that was probably 20 years ago or more.  The dolly comes off and collapses, but I seldom use it as it just takes up space.  The cooler collapses down to about 4-5" thick.  I carry it on as my personal item usually.

I'm meeting people there who'll pick me up. The trip is about 1200 miles one way (2400 RT). Best case scenario at $5/gallon is $750 just in gas (probably more like $7/gal, $1050), at least two nights in a hotel, meals. I'm looking at least $1500 RT cost.
