I think it's great that they have the objective numbers.
But at the same time do we always have to be below objective. Some of those permits seem like they doubled or tripple or more.
Why can't they just come up with a good round number and say hay ,we are gonna add 30 permits to all these categories. And will look at the objective number of elk in the herd next year and plus or minus a bit to keep our sustainable objective up above what we say it should be.

It always works out like this let's tripple the permits in a year or two ,will have to bring permit numbers down to crap.
Let's not go overboard be below objective herd numbers.
I see no harm being a hair above on the number instead of being below for many years to build back up again.

But no more bull permits?  Anybody seeing a problem with that?
:yeah: I've got a lot of questions  :o

 :yeah: :yeah:

No tags for you!  I'm sure there is logic in there somewhere, I simply lack the ability to find it.

https://wdfw.wa.gov/sites/default/files/about/regulations/filings/2022/WSR%2022-04-103.pdf

Use this link. You have to scroll to page 47 for all proposed elk permits.

The other link is for what they call "notable proposed changes" only.

 :yeah:

Bull tags remain consistent...and decreased in some areas...still baffles me that areas that once had 100 plus bull tags went to single digits... apparently my experience in elk country is different than wdfw survey's.

The little naches is at objectives now? Hmm, they bounce the permits on archery cow permits from one end of the scale to the other so damn fast.  :dunno:

I see the huge increase in permits shown in the powerpoint slide screen shot but I am not seeing that increase on the actual document.  I am seeing that the numbers are the same for the most part and more reductions than additions.  What am I missing? :dunno:

You are correct about that. It could be something as simple as they didn't update the numbers on that document for the Yakima units. I didn't check them all, but it shows the updated number for St. Helens units.

Go to my original post and click the second link you’ll see what your looking for. The slide show was from the commission meeting I believe.

Here is a link from the commission meeting, scroll through to the summary presentation for elk or deer you will find the changes…

https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/commission/meetings/2022/17-19mar-fwc-agenda

There are proposals for changes to muzzleloader and archery equipment as well.

Apparently 1x scopes on muzzle loaders are going to be legal as well as breadcrumb nocks and range finding sights for archery…

Those were the proposals.  There were some arguments for and against.  We'll have to see what comes out of the wash.

If I were to guess they’ll pass those rule changes as well as approve the cow permit increases.

Possibly.  Those confidence intervals seem awfully small to me - guessing there hasn't been as much change above or below those targets as they think there has been.  With the new commissioners stressing precautionary management, I wouldn't be super surprised to see the increases in cow harvests dialed back a bit in the Yakima area.

All I see is pure garbage. More cow permits would mean lots of elk. Hurd doing great? Less bull permits means Hurd not doing great?
