How often are you drawn?
« on: May 11, 2009, 11:47:49 AM »
I just started playing the application slot machine for trophy tags accross many of the western states.  Curoius to know how many different states/tags/species you all apply for each year and, generally speaking, how often are you drawn?

I apply to almost all of them, though the list is shrinking, and so far about one per year.  The states without points, I seem to be the luckiest in.

CO elk, WI Bear, MT deer, WA everything except goat.  Never been drawn in CO or WA for anything.  CO I just put in for the points to someday draw a specific tag.  MT about every other year on average.  I seem to be kind of on the unlucky side with them all.

I apply for 50-60 hunts per year and Ive not drawn anything but bear tags that I consider top shelf hunts.  Im looking long term on my apps though and really only apply for the best of the best.  Im a very patient person. Im counting on some great hunts in about 25 years...

In the mean time Im locked in on some of the better OTC stuff in Idaho.

I apply in almost all of the western states, and the only tag I have drawn was a toutle bull tag.

In the past 10 years or so I have drawn,
WA goat
WA sheep
WA moose
Entiat deer rut
Toutle bull
Blues spring bear
Blues turkey
plus doe, cow, and
misc turkey permits
Every couple of years, I get drawn for something. Last year I was particularly lucky with bear, turkey and bull permits.

Yes, I believe he had a goat and moose OIL tags and a St. Helen's elk or somewhere near there.  All DIY's too if I remember.  He took a real nice goat.

Went back and looked and it was Alpinegus.  Goat, Moose and Pumice Plains Elk.  That's a lot of meat.

I guess it was 12 years.
1996 goat
1999 sheep
2002 moose
2004 entiat deer
2008 bear, elk and turkey
These were all DIY, although a passerby helped haul out the moose.

I get drawn every three years for archery any bull. 3 times in ten years. I don't put in for the best area though. Mike
