More hunting loss, this time in Alaska
« on: April 01, 2022, 11:34:13 AM »
Federal Subsistence Board Just Voted on Closing 60 Million Acres of Public Land in Alaska to Non-Local Moose and Caribou Hunters.

We are on our heels.  There has been steady pressure for decades from the anti movement and now they are reaping the rewards.  I feel as a community we are behind on advocating for ourselves and it is going to be a battle to reverse these trends.  Where does it stop?  Once all hunting opportunities have been removed?  Again, in this article they are demensteating the agencies are hacking at the leaves and not at the roots of the problem for game management.  :bash:

Disgusting..

I was following this in depth last year as it was going to cause the cancellation of our caribou trip. The testimony was weak from the subsistence side...adfg had very good info against the closure as did several other agencies. Even some of the villagers testified against it...small town's etc that thrive on non natives coming through and spending money.

We hunted just outside the noatak but most of the lakes our transporter uses are within the boundaries. This will most likely cause them to fold as a business.

Personal observation.
We saw 500-600 caribou in 5 days. Killed two bulls. Not a single caribou changed course because of our presence, during or after our harvest, or the days that followed. They just don't care....once they head South they keep moving....

We had another trip in the works 3 year's out....sigh....so much for that. .
