Why would you only apply for one unit?  With WA being a once in a lifetime tag why even risk only trying one unit?  Why waste your years as life passes you up and risk never getting drawn?  I don't get it, maybe I'm missing something here.

Caretaker

This is the first year that I have put in all four areas on my tag. I have 13 or 14 points this year. The reason that I have never done this in the past is that I really know the 49 unit very well. I grew up in that unit and know where I can find bulls that will go over 50". I dont know how many more years I will be in WA so I put in for everything this year. I still will hold out for a nice bull if I get it.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I think phool will come on here and say he has no regrets of how his moose hunt played out, had a great time with great people and saw some great animals. there would be no need to feel bad for him and take him to alaska....

I still can't bring myself to put down a 4th choice.  I know that I should probably put one, then just scout and bug the biologists until I get draw, but I just don't know the other areas enough to make myself put down another choice.  Maybe next year if I am not concentrating on an out of state hunt like I am now.

"...don't know how many more years I will be in WA..."?  That sounds ominous Teacherman.  Are you planning on doing some job hunting while you are in Montana antelope hunting this year...?

Friend drew selkirk last year with 2 points and killed a top 5 in the state bull.  Lucky SOB.

:chuckle:unless you are more into shed hunting than moose hunting.

Now thats some funny chit right there :chuckle: good one Jackelope.

Actually Sky, no regrets at all. I was looking for a 50"+ bull with split brows and was prepared to go the distance to get it ( I really wanted to get my name above Dougs in the book :chuckle:)

We found the bull to do it the first weekend and I spent the rest of the time trying to get him, the opportunity just never presented itself.

As far as packing goes, M-Ray has been wanting to pack a rear quarter since I wouldn't let him pack one of mine, his back is bad and I didn't want to listen to the whining the rest of my life :chuckle: Actually it turns out to be a good thing too, he found out yesterday its worse than he thought, ruptured discs :yike:

ouch that bites. I know about the back thing I had a couple herniated discs. A little numbness after the surgery and load me up I am good to go. Well congrats on sticking with your goals with respect to the moose. Perhaps you will draw the raffle tag!!

My  buddy drew Mt spokane in 02 with his first ever app for anything. Friends of our family drew the first moose tag ever in WA, then somebody stole the antlers about a week later  :bash:
I put in for hangman, way better odds and some giant bulls
