Newer Ram Trucks Front Suspension
« on: April 05, 2022, 10:24:08 AM »
Does anyone own the newer model of the HD Ram diesel trucks, and how is the front suspension holding up? Just curious on how the beefier suspension is doing.

I have a 2004 2500, and yes the front suspension is the weak link in it, but it’s paid for so it’s not going anywhere and it’s cheaper to keep her.🤣

I have a bunch of them, from 96, to 16, and the front ends have gotten better i did the front end in the 16 last year at 156k. I usually do the pre 10's around the 100k mark. The front in the 16 was still wearing tires well, the axle u joints had just gone to pot so i did the whole thing.

I have a 2020 Ram 3500HD and the front suspension is in great shape.  I drive the snot out of this truck on and offroad.

Big improvement over older cummins.  No more wonky wobbly ball joint eating steer braces etc.  I will say it gets a little soft with 400lb bumper mounted.  2020 ram hd3500 and it drives like a dream empty and better towing.
MAGA!  Again..

I bought it brand new December 2020, and it just clicked over 22,000

I also have a 2020 2500 HD, no problem with the front end so far, but I only have 20,000 miles on it. It has the snow plow package.
I have had 2 recalls though. One for the electronic stability control the other for fuel pump, no parts available said 6-12 months for fuel pump.

I had a 2018 with just shy of 50K and never had a problem.  I now have a 2021 with only 7K and it is running strong.

Prior to both of these trucks, I had a 2006 that had ball joints replaced 4 times in 160,000 miles.  The first two were done by 36K.   :yike:

I’ve got a 2020 Ram 2500 and haven’t had any front end issues yet. I drive out of logging roads and have been impressed with the ride of this truck. I’m hoping it doesn’t have issues like the earlier model years. I do have the 2 recalls mentioned above but so far so good. I’ve got a hair over 18k miles.

If you keep yours and decide to spend some money on the front end, do the research on upgraded parts. Carli makes great stuff but it’s spendy. Their ball joints are adjustable and rebuildable with lifetime warranty if I remember right. They have a bigger trac bar as well. I upgraded mine with that stuff as well as a red head gear box, 09 and newer linkage, and a set of adjustable control arms (I have a 6” lift and 37’s) and it drives great. I had over 200k before I did ball joints and steering stuff.

I put aftermarket control arms on a couple years ago, new track bar, death wobble bracket, shocks, sway bar bushings, tie rods, sway bar end links.

I’ve got one bad sway bar end link I’m going to replace both again soon.🤬

Mine eats sway bar end links too, I haven’t wanted to pony up for the Carli ones yet!

My 2006 had aftermarket suspension.  I think it was Thuren but maybe Carli, it had progressive coils bilstein res. etc.  It was full Monty and very very good.  No problems and it rode handled so well.

Are they better than Moog?

They’re the extended ones I need since I have a 6” lift. Not sure they’re any better though but I’ve liked their stuff so far.
