If there was one nonresident hunter in Montana, there would be 500 people complaining about it. If they can't find a NR, they just find someone with a county plate from more than one county away and complain about them invading "their" spots. Hasn't changed since I was the one complaining in the 90s.The hotels, gas stations, restaurants, etc..... seem to enjoy having us over though.
As a native Montanan who still hunts in that state, my experience lately has been that if anything is going to "ruin" hunting there, it will be the billionaire New Jersey governor (Gianforte) who far prefers favoring his wealthy cronies to honoring Montana's longstanding hunter heritage for residents and non-residents alike. And of course the problem with managing elk that are over-objective (by a variety of metrics, including landowners' subjectivity) in GMUs where certain landowners won't cooperate with MT FWP and allow public access to the elk that seek refuge on those private lands. But I'm a broken record to a narrative that has been unfolding in Montana over at least the past three decades...John
