‘22 opening morning snow bird!
« on: April 15, 2022, 01:54:49 PM »
Couldn’t get into plan A spot because there was too much snow so turned around and couldn’t get back up the hill! An hour later I finally managed to make it out and head toward plan B spot. Truck after truck parked there. Started my trek with low expectations due to 14° weather and deep crunchy snow. About a mile and half in I finally got a reply. He wasn’t far so I sat down and gave it a bit, few soft calls but no more gobbles. After about 15 min or so I decided to get up and sneak forward. I made it about 50 yards and spotted movement through the trees. I sat back down and set up, didn’t say another peep and he was in my lap!

Very nice. Congrats.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Great bird!  It looks big.  The feathers look clean and fluffy.  Is it a Merriam's?
