Turkey elevation?
« on: April 20, 2022, 06:25:11 AM »
What is the most common range in elevation you are seeing turkeys at?  Or is there no consistency with elevation and Turkeys in this state?  I'm a novice turkey hunter, novice hunter in general.  I went out into public for the first time this week, Near Republic, kettle falls rd area.  I saw a couple Toms on private, at the bottom of the mountain.  No gobbles as I went up the mountain, around 2k - 3.5k elevation.    Any advice in this respect would be helpful . thanks

Birds are still moving. Found them at pretty much low to high  this past week and everything from small groups to still some large winter type groups.  Ran across one very large group (well over 20) all toms. Might be the strsnge weather, snow up higher and cold but seems like kind of a strange year.  Saw birds where we've never seen them before and no birds in places we always see them.  Probably not really helping you much but not an easy answer for where to find them this year. I'm only in unit 121 so can't obviously comment in other areas.

Haven’t tried above 3.5k this season but have found plenty of turkeys between the 2-3k elevation range so far this season.

We found them top to bottom last weekend in the north central region. Literally valley floor to completely snow covered ridges.  Snowing and 26F. Very much henned up.  That said, our general rule is to stay at the level of the buttercups and follow the bloom up as it rises in elevation.

I've got a few marked at 2200-2600 where I'm at, east side.
