Are they Roosevelts or Rocky Mountain or some kind of subspecies?

Every elk east of I-5 is considered a rocky in B&C and I sure that SCI considers them cascade rossies

this is correct by the book.

A few years back searchnfor and I were talking to a WDFW Bio about the Nooksack herd. Searchnfor specifically asked that question. The Bio's response was that the elk have been genetically tested and are a mix of Roosies and Rockies.

Definately hybrid as stated, some of those elk were transplanted from the skookumchuck and the mine and they are crossed up. Only true Roosies are on the penninsula and the coast. I still call them roosies though  ;)

I heard that same thing from a biologist down there. He told me that they have no clue how roosevelt genes got down there.
