Ammunition for turkeys

Remington made a duplex load 4x6. You could mow the lawn to 40 yards with them. Still have 3 or 4 boxes of them. But I quit hunting turkies in this state just got tired of nimrods stalking in on a setup.

It does seem like those shells with different shot sizes do mow the lawn.

If you can't find any of the new TSS shot this spring just stick to #5 or #6 high-base pheasant loads. I took my merriam last year with an ancient fixed choke shotgun with #5's right at 37 yards. I did the same thing this year with the #6 shot, at 30 yards. Both birds went down quickly. I bought some TSS for my 20ga but I have yet to try it. I'm probably going to save it for hunting in areas where a long shot is more of a possibility.

Whatever you gun patterns best with.  I have seen some Hevi-Shot Strut X and Sportsmen's Warehouse in Puyallup also some Hevi-Shot Magnum Blend both I have used and work great.  If your using pheasant loads I would get them in close because they don't have quite the punch a turkey load has even in 2 3/4.  Also have seen lots of Winchester XR Longbeard

I know that Sportsman's has been doing a lot better than Cabela's over here in the Wenatchee/Ellensburg area at keeping good stock in. They've got all sorts of turkey loads but no TSS.

Why are people paying this much for Turkey loads.  And what is all the hype with tss.   I have never bought anything other than the Kent's for 10 bucks for 10. I have never had a problem killing a Turkey.  I would never spend more than 15 dollars on a box of 10.  Like was mentioned before I have used pheasant loads and they work fine.  All it takes is 1 bb in the brain.

Being as I run a 410 I use the TSS shot. Using a improved cylinder and modified fixed chokes in an over under. This sub guage shotgun has been more deadly for me out to 30 yards then I could have ever imagined. Yes expensive but I travel a great distance when I do hunt turkey and the shells have been worth every penny. It has been a game changer for me with limitations that I face. Even been amazing with goose hunting as well. I can't say enough good things about it. Although I do plan to reload and cut cost drastically with tss. Have everything needed but the shot itself. When I get time to order the shot I will quickly be loading my own. My reloads will soon hit the field as well.

Yes I get the cost difference.  But don't understand why someone would pay that much.  Do the tss all of a sudden make you be able to shoot a Turkey at 100 yards

Yeah I have shot at geese off and on and smoked every goose within 30 yards. Even took a shot at 40 yards paced off and smoked it. Thats with the #9tss. Bismuth works great on ducks with 6 shot but have tried shots with #6s twice and got 1 goose. Overall have been very successful with tss. Starting to finish gathering supplies to reload but now need a role crimper for the tss. Bismuth I have been loading with great results for ducks. But every load seems to have new equipment to buy and tss needs to be loaded very carefully with exact components to keep it safe since it is so hard of a metal. But the performance is amazing. The 410 is no joke to hunt with when you learn the firearm, different shot combos and the capability of the gun. Only wiffed a few shots last year on ducks by my misjudged aim. And recovery rate on ducks was around 90% on ducks down on shots and no lost cripples. So there is a lot to be said about the performance it can have. I remember someone laughing at me for bringing a 410 out for turkey in the fall. Had 2 tags. Saw a flock about 1 mile away. Made a move and dropped a double with the over under. Later bought 2 more tags and shot 1 bird each of the next 2 days filling my fall limit of 4 birds without a miss on turkey. And there was still crap talk about hunting with it. To some it's all about having the biggest baddest gear and they don't know how to use it. For me its about using the gear I have on hand, learning it well and becoming successful with what I am using. More challenging sure. But it is a blast. Main reason for using the 410 is because of a disability with the upper extremity which doesn't allow heavy recoil anymore. Main reason I made the switch from the past use of a 12 guage. I have learned so much making the switch and in my eyes it has made me a better hunter in some ways. I am very thankful I have been able to make those changes and still find the success I have been having. Whether its birds or big game. I have modified a lot of things and put in a lot of effort and feel very blessed to the time a field.

While I haven't invested in TSS yet, I've mulled it over. Most folks will spend more on just gas, let alone all the other gear for turkey hunting and this isn't wing shooting so you're not going through 20 shells. For a two turkey trip, $25 in ammo isn't a huge investment compared to your other costs. While $5 in ammo might also work, if TSS increases efficacy, I get why people use it.
