Probably with the .458 Lott, and then finished off with the bow through the same hole.  Pretty amazing.  I have no idea if an elephant can be taken with a bow in that manner, but it would be amazing to see.

His quiver holds a lot more arrows than the two that are in it plus the one in the bull, I wonder if he really went out there with just 3 arrows

Wrong placement for a brain shot, not near enough blood to have bled out from that shot. Besides if you look under his arm he is covering a place where they rubbed dirt on it to cover the blood. Look by his left leg you can also the dirt has a red tinge to it, possibly blood.

There's a moisture mark on the lower jaw just by the guys right hand... ???

Not sure I agree Branden, seems like there's a lot of dirt everywhere on that elephant and why would they have an shot placement behind the jaw in the neck???

I think the moisture coming down from the guys hand is from the musth gland.

I can't speak to the hunt - in terms of the musth secretion, arees is correct.

A long time ago, I learned where to shoot an elephant - it didn't address frontal arrows though.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Jugular vein is in the neck. They wanted a head shot, so it may have taken them a couple to bring him down. Like Huntphool said there should be more than three arrows in that quiver! I see the moisture spot by why would they rub dirt on it unless they are trying to hide something?

elephantys get dirty don't they?
the moisture is clearly flowing downhill from above the guys hand.

the shot looks too low for a brainer.

Looks like a good shot. The front of the skull is like a honeycomb web on an elephant. Kind of soft even. That arrow has plenty of debth to reach the brain and looks spot on for placement.

At 18 yards, that arrow is going uphill. The hole is a bit low, but the arrow is not parallel with the ground if the bulls head is in a normal position. Especially if he is head down in a rage...

Just thought the same thing hawkenbob...  The guy would be shooting at an upward angle so the arrow may enter low but its trajectory could put it right into the brain...

And Jackelope, is the brain really that small on an ele like in that second picture you posted????   :yike:

Not having Wacked any Elephants in my life time, if he was at 18 yards don't you think the ele would of continued that far before colapsing? i.e. Shoot and run like Hell??

I watched a guy hunting an elephant with a bow on some tv show a coupla years back and the way the PH told him to do it was walk straight at the elephant until it started charging then slip an arrow into the front of his skull and sidestep so he didnt get taken out, the guy shot it right in the brain and the elephant still ran a good 40 feet before it dropped, those big animals can do some amazing things sometimes
