Help how do start a flooded 1988 45 hp mercury. the damn thing runs great trolls down to 1.5 mph and at wot she will hit 30 mph. If I dont start it just right she floods and cant get it to fire up til i just leave her sit for an hour. Its new to me on a 14ft almar lite. Any merc fans that could help with any ideas  would be great thanks Allen

Might be a stuck float if it has a carb
Spray the crap out of it with carb cleaner
Probably varnish and crud buildup
Just a guess

I had a 15 hp like that and carried an empty pop can in the back of the boat.  When it flooded, I pulled the hose from the bottom of the carb and drained the fuel into the can and then it would fire right back up.

Thanks for the replies guys, Max i checked out the carb before I made the post it looked clean kinda like new. Stein I thought about your idea but I really hate that damn two piece engine cover getting it back on while on the water sucks. I went back out an fished Shoecraft again today and it did it a gain so i pulled the fuel line and cranked it over til I thought the fuel was out. I plugged the fuel line back in and she fired right up. Damn merc i will figure it out. Oh and the fishing is good on Shoecraft sixteen inch bows with nice red flesh will see how they eat tonight. Thanks again guys always open to new ideas.   Allen
