increasing trailhead smash-and-grabs in WA State
« on: April 28, 2022, 07:25:00 PM »
Mods, please move if not appropriately placed.

WA State made national news again, and not in a good way-
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/washington-state-sees-spike-in-smash-and-grabs-at-trailheads-prompting-more-patrols/ar-AAWIdJT?ocid=entnewsntp&cvid=0f884bf8a8bc40e5b41215d4dd20bd38

Increasing smash-and-grab crime at trailheads, primarily in the western part of the state.  Be careful out there, folks, and don't leave anything of value in your rig.

Sickening stuff.

This has been a problem for 20 years. Recently it’s been exasperated by D’s  legislation…….and it’s not just trailheads it’s peoples homes too.

I seriously hate thieves, to the point I’d probably be arrested if I caught one of the pukes in the act. Sure a lot different nowadays.  Back in the day, if you were caught and were beaten to a pulp, nobody batted an eye or lost any sleep. They learned the errors of their ways and realized, it’s not acceptable behavior.

It's really shot up on the peninsula.  The areas getting hit hard are the close to town type trails where the dog walkers go or the old people take their morning walk.  Lots of reports of vehicle registrations being stolen.

Sucks huge but it’s come to this.  :bash:  Don’t leave anything in your rig, your registration, insurance (nothing with your address), or garage door opener; it all goes with you on your hunt/hike. It’s a bit over $100 with insurance to get your window replaced. Do not leave stuff in your rig that gives them your address.

i always put a cable locked trail cam pointed at my truck. Caught one guy already, turned the video into the fed cop and he took care of it. haven't seen the guy up there since, we use to get him on camera driving past quite often.local old guy that you wouldn't think would steal your stuff by how he looked.

This has been going on since the early 80s.
I use to run the Mt Si trail in the early 80s. Even back then there were so many break ins, glass covered the whole parking lot.
In the 90s, all the trail heads along I-90 had the same thing happen. In the early 2000s, parking at the east side boat ramp parking lot at American Lake, it was almost garunteed you woul be broken into at the least, and your catalytic converters would be hacked off.
Same time, parking at Lake Kaposin boat ramp was an invitation to getting broken into.
I quit fishing American Lake and Lake Kaposin because it was so bad.
In each of these instances, it took epidemic levels of theft before law enforcement took action.
They would go in and setup bait vehicles, catch a few perpetrators and call it good. A few weeks later the cycle reappears at another location.

Obviously this problem has been at epidemic levels for over 40 years.
Yet no permanent solution has been enacted. The stings work, but there has to be a much larger effort that works year round and all locations to keep up with the meth maggots and crackheads. And with the current state of the prosecutor’s in the Puget Sound area not willing to prosecute criminals, they are out in he same day to rinse and repeat.

Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
Psalm 144.1

these thieves know that they will be back on the streets in this state as soon as the next morning. they must just need counseling instead of vigilante justice which us as law abiding citizens need to impose.

That's the truth.
Can't really think of the lesson plan.
But I'm sure if it was my truck being broke into.
I could come up with something.

I’ve always thought a retired guy or just someone who wanted to read a book, relax and make some easy money should just stay at trail heads with a tip jar and watch peoples stuff!!!  Maybe have your side arm or AR on you with a sign saying taking donations and when you get back, your stuff will be fine!!
