Clam dig and bonus
« on: May 02, 2022, 11:23:14 PM »
Sunday was great at twin harbors, my wife and boys came with for the dig and weather was perfect! Mid fifty's overcast and a slight wind. After waking the boys up at 4am to go, we called it quits after an hour of digging for breakfast. Then over to Westport for a few hours of crabbing
51 razors, 5 dungeoness, 1 redrock. A GREAT day

I took my boys on their first clamming trip Sunday. Couldn't have turned out better for us, conditions were great and they ended up with all the big clams!

This post just about sums up what I miss about the west side. Looks like a great trip and great memories for all.

My oldest is 7 and autistic, he got his first clam on his own after watching me for a while and with some guidance from mom was able to get the clam gun in and back out by himself. He was jumping up and down in the air excited! He has a memory like a steel trap and remembers his first trout, first small mouth bass, perch, crappie, and now he gets to add his first razor clam to that list. I'll hear him tell the tale every few days "you member that time, when I got that big clam? The first one? That was so fun! Let's go do that again!"

I took my daughter out this weekend as well, first time out to the coast for her. Dug Saturday morning and Sunday morning and headed home. She had a blast, great memories

So much fun thanks for the pics!  I had some smoked razor clam necks yesterday. If you have time smoke some up.

I've thought about it but never tried. What's your method?

ICEMAN's smoked razor clams.  Should be able to do a search on here.  You pressure can them with a bit of liquid smoke.  They are outstanding.  I have never actually tried smoking them as these are so good.

We will be out Thursday on Copalis.  Will hit the Green Lantern for their broasted chicken Wednesday evening.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

Used the pellet grill. 40 minutes @225.No brine or seasoning. Any longer and they get tough.

The boys liked the digger best, they lapped them up as fast as I could fry them up with a crispy panko crust

Last day of the season tomorrow.  Copalis on Thursday was lights out.  We dug 40 in 28 minutes.  Huge too, many over 5.5 and a couple edging 6".
