I’m new to hunting with a muzzleloader and recently got a CVA optima. I’m struggling with the sights that came with it. My eyes are not what they once were and I’m struggling with focusing on the rear sight. I’ve read the solution is to move the rear sight forward/closer to the front sight. Any recommendations from anyone with a similar sight issue?

I too have an issue with not being able to see both sights clearly so with my optima ive settled on the factory front and a aftermarket peep. So If your optima is equipped with the factory sights I would recommend a rear peep which I know of at least two different aftermarket options for the optima and you can either run the peep as it comes or drill out the aperture to a larger diameter (which is what i did) and if that isn't enough you can remove the aperture all together and have basically a ghost ring rear sight which more or less makes the rear sight dissappear went looking through it. For me this type of setup has allowed me to shoot well out to 200 yard with relative ease. Let me know if you have any there questions.

Can you show me a picture of your setup? Or what brand of rear sight?

I'm at work now but can get some pictures when I get home tonight and I'll look up the two peeps I've tried and post them for you just give a some time.

That's the peep sight I'm using but that globe sight just didn't pan out for my eyes I just couldn't focus on the sight and the target at the same time.

Ok so here is what I've tried.

Eabco peeprib(good if you ever wanted to mount a scope)

Williams gun sight WGRS peep(the one I prefer)

Sorry I'm not sure how to post a link for you.

Same for me.  I kept my optima front sight and installed a Williams peep.  First time out I shot a buck at 212 yards.  And I'm blind as a bat when it comes to open sights. :twocents:

Sounds like I need to try the Williams sight. Thanks for all of the helpful feedback.

I ha e an older Williams peep, with. Bronze ring around the aperture.

It seems to help with the site picture for me, but I haven't been able to find more.

Williams peep with EABCO peeprib brass ring aperture drilled out to larger diameter and then aperture completely removed (ghost ring)

That brass ring does seem to help.

That brass is what I need.  Is there a tutorial somewhere?
