I just emailed WDFW and will let you know as soon as I get a response. I asked:
- Has the hunt gone away?
- If so, will they reallocate points to a different hunt, reimburse people, or just pocket the money?

My points are gone, and I don't see the hunt available on WDFW's license purchasing website. I assume it's no longer offered.

This is also on the spring bear topic. I would hang on to your points in case they bring them back one day.
Thanks for calling WDFW

Why would they reimburse you? Pretty sure you paid for a chance to draw a hunt the year you applied.
The conflict goat hunts are no more. There aren’t any goats left. Or at least very few, which was the goal of the hunt all along. Mission accomplished.

Washington doesn't reinburse for anything, remember the 2008 recession when they implemented Discovery pass so they wouldnt shut down the state parks.  The parks had to find their own revenue. Well that recession is long gone, tons of money in the State budget but that D Pass will be required for ever.   :bash:

Conflict goat cancelled and it doesn’t show any points.

thats because spring bear is voted on annually. Its not gone forever, just for 2022 (i personally think its gone forever). The conflict goat is gone. The goats are gone. It is no more.

Points are pretty much worthless anyway, for something like mountain goats with so few permits compared to the number of applicants.

They might decide to eliminate goats elsewhere in the future too.  :dunno:

But they could just be in the regular goat category, right? Why have a separate category?

I suppose that could have been the case from the beginning. Once it's been done stick with it.  :dunno:

it would be much easier for people to swallow if it was a straight draw every year, no points. Points, as worthless as they are allow folks to feel invested in the draw system and thus angry when something is taken away along with their investment. A straight draw would eliminate that.

As I understand it, they can remove the ability to see point buckets as they so desire.

Example, They removed visibility to Spring bear points this year, and then due to confusion made them visible again.

So my guess would be, there is still a bucket of points for our conflicted goat points, but they have just pulled them off of the webpage so you can no longer see them.

Seems like it would far less stressful for WDFW just to leave all categories visible at all times - but one can only speculate as to how the Government decides to operate...
