Help a kid fish
«

I know this is not a fishing forum but here we go. We are from tri-cities but unfortunately stuck in Seattle childrens hospital for a while. My son is 13 and fighting a battle against leukemia. He had his bone marrow transplant the other day and all he can think about or talk about is getting back to fishing. I told him I might be able to pull the boat over and find some Kokanee but I am not going to be around all the time as I am trying to balance life between here, work and home. I would like to ask you guys for a few ideas on good areas to catch fish. Maybe a couple lakes that would produce trout and Kokanee. He is also really interested in fishing jetties and such for rock fish. PMs would be great and if someone has 2 open seats on there boat I can cover the fuel and what not. We are not going to be out of the hospital till the middle of June, so just trying to do some research in advance. Thanks. Blake

Just to let you know, Tacoma Sportsman's Club is having their annual kids fishing derby this Saturday. It's held at Bradley Lake in Puyallup's South Hill. Snacks, lunch, bait and rods are provided. This event is no charge and open to anyone.

Give us a little time to come up with something and I bet we can make something happen. Lots of possibilities.

Fortson Mill Pond in Darrington is kids only would be a nice drive in june to get away from Seattle. Easy access and it is well planted with nice trout. Twin Lakes in Smokey point is just off I-5 and a lot closer to Seattle, but kinda hit and miss with any fish it gets hit hard, plus the homeless hang out there quite a bit. Both of those are bank fishing, but if you want to boat fish there are several lakes in Snohomish county that would be great, and I am sure there are enough guys on here that would help get a kid fishing!

We have plenty of time to get info. He has never fly fished before and the majority of our fishing is walleye, bass, salmon and Kokanee.

Have you thought about a charter out of Westport?
.
Bottom fishing from "The Slammer" would make his day!
.
(Or any other boat)

A charter might be a possibility but we have to be really careful how many people he is around because the transplant completely wipes out his immune system. As a matter of fact his immunization record is wiped clean and he has to do them all again. I think our transplant team would prolly say no unless I could charter a boat with like 4 people.

We’ve been known to do it up a little in situations like this. Just want to make sure what the boundaries are here before we get too carried away
The hunt wa crew will have him on a fully outfitted blue marlin trip if we’re not careful.

Hit me up if you're still around July 1st. Would have plenty of room for a few bodies, crabbing and flat fishing (sole, sanddabs and maybe some other strange looking creatures). Would be totally free, just show up in Everett with a cooler (or I could donate one). I have extra crab and fishing gear and tons of bait in the freezer.

Boats are fine, just not big charter boats with 20 people. Have to be careful not to expose him to too much.

Just to be clear here. I am in no way asking for a hand out and certainly don’t want it to come across that way. I just have no idea about fishing spots on this side of the state. I appreciate all the responses.
