Deer hunting on Kodiak

Kodiak Alaska question?
I'm hunting Sitkas out of a wildlife refuge cabin this year.
Anyone have any first hand experience hunting out of a public use cabin on Kodiak? Willing to chat ? Msg me if you'd rather not comment here.
FYI dates are set cabin is booked float plane and commercial flights booked. Thanks!

My experience has been hunting from a public cabin on Kodiak is a little like hunting from a national forest campground in the lower 48. There could be critters around but the further you get from the cabin, the higher the deer density is.

Time of year also plays into it. If there were  dudes hunting out of it prior, it will feel like the  area has been pressured. If nobody has been there for a month…different story.

Where abouts is the cabin? Have a blast…no cooler place on earth!!

North Frazer lk. Have the cabin booked for a month so it will be vacant nearly 2 weeks before arrival.

you guys got the REAL misery with that rain! When actionshooter was in the bush, we were grounded in kodiak. 5" of rain in 36hrs  we had some good weather and some not so good the following week. Cabin would have been clutch but not without a way to cover some ground. Frazer is THICK with bears the first few weeks of November so keep your head on a swivel.

I’d definitely bring gear to spike out. If it’s a mellow fall the deer will still be up top and depending on the cabin location, that could be a 10 hour alder hell slog to climb up 3k. If the deer are down, a skiff can be a life saver.

Bears are a reality there. But you know that. Early Nov the grass is still usually long and it can be tough to see the dang things. I’ve never hunted Frazer but would love to…lots of history on that lake!!

Ya... that was the wettest camp/hunt I have ever done... insane but deer or no deer, a cabin would have been pretty nice LOL

 I will say, I did see more bears than bucks, they are freakin EVERYWHERE!
