I don't think my expectations have every been lower. Tag numbers just don't look good anywhere, regardless of number of applicants.

I am actually just the opposite this year.  Even with tag numbers dismall I have my wife, both daughters, father in law and myself all in for permits.  We are in for a total of 50 categories.  I gotta believe one of us will draw a permit.

My oldest daughter better start drawing some of these youth tags before she's not able to buy youth applications anymore.

Hurts less on your second kid... :chuckle: :chuckle:

First kid I was all "Mr. Application Strategy"   :tinfoil:  hmmmm.... is it better to put in for something he can draw and burn the points, or is it better to be in the pool your last year with more points than most other kids..... :dunno:

Next year, I will sit Little Pathfinder down and say "Son, this year you are going to eat 8 points in every youth category.  This is what it will feel like most years that you send your money to WDFW.  Now, let's talk about career fields that will get you a good job in WY, MT, CO or ID..."   :chuckle: :chuckle:

June 10th. At least the last two years were. I always worry about getting more then one elk tag. LOL
Never happens. Never will. Most excited about the youth hunts for the grand kids. Much nicer to follow something that requires 5 points and down to get drawn.

I've had the same conversation with my daughter and she comes back and says she wants to be a teacher :bash:.  "You know school starts the same month as hunting season right?"   :dunno: :dunno:

Yeah, tell me about it.  I retired from the Army and became a high school JROTC Instructor.  Worst possible job for someone who likes to hunt (except maybe a taxidermist or a Game Warden...).  4 days in a row is about all I can finagle.

I am not really expecting any draws this year. Since I drew quality elk last year i am not expecting that and my quality deer and bull tag points aren't quite in the range that I would have more hope. Moose is up to the top along with most everyone else so that is a crap shoot. I would really like to see my dad draw a moose tag before he just gives up.

the elk tag I really want had 3 of us top point holders last year with 26 points,  one out of us three drew a tag.  So this year I suspect it will be just two of us at 27 if the numbers don't change.  Maybe one of us will draw, hoping its me!   It's pretty depressing looking at the top point holders in the elk draws in several categories and MOST don't draw.

Wait until you call WDFW after the drawing and ask for your "Placement."  Then they will tell you, you were number 004 drawn for a possible 003 permits (using those numbers as an example).

That happened to me a few times.  Talk about a nutpunch.

If you aint hunting, you aint livin'

Trust me, been there, done that!!!  This same tag when I had 20 points I was the first loser!!!!!!  killed me!  But my wife drew a rifle rut tag that year, drew number 1.  Did I mention she's lucky.

Just checked the special hunt wins tab and saw that I drew

 a multiseason deer tag.
