DIY Idaho bear hunts.
« on: May 25, 2022, 01:00:49 PM »
First time trying the spring bear hunts in idaho. Went over last weekend set one bait with a pretty good amount of bait.  Heading back over this weekend to check bait and set a couple more.  Any members have success in the past?

I have limited experience doing it. But I did it for a few years in a row a while back in northish Idaho with a buddy who owns some property over there. He would start the baits end of April with at least one fill up, and then really juice them up once we got there around Mother’s Day. We would take multiple bears every trip of of two different barrels.

I’d say starting sooner is better. As the green up happens, bears disperse, more food sources available, snow melts,  I think the less effective the baits are.

I’m over here now spot and stalk bear hunting. Seen two over the week. It’s hot. Killing time during mid day. Both weren’t out until 730 pm.

I’m in central Idaho. Snow level is probably around 6500. Green up to about 5500+. Supposed to be 80’s today!

What’s the spring snow in Idaho like?

Way above normal snowpack and been very rainy this spring here in unit 10. 7-11 feet of snow above 6000’ in many of places still. Hopefully we will see a stronger melt come and some dry periods so the Forest roads don’t go to crap even more.
