Fun encounters while out scouting

My old pup and I have been doing a lot of scouting and learning the land, and came across this doe and little one last weekend. She saw us from over 100 yards out, ran into the brush, then came back onto the road and wanted desperately to get into the timber behind us. We sat and watched her until she spooked, then went on our way so she could run back into the timber. Not long after, I finally found a little buck nearby -- my first blacktail buck sighting of the season!

Looks like a yearling? Last weekend we watched a doe kick a yearling to the curb. Time to go when there is a new mouth to feed. She pinned her ears back and chased him off quite a few times until he started to get the message. Pretty brutal to watch.

Dang, that sure sounds brutal. I was thinking yearling too since no spots, but it's crazy how small it was.

For whatever reason our house seems.to.be all the local deers go to apit to get rid of last year's fawns. They'll chase them around the house and through our field in a big figure eight. Then the yearling comes back and she'll chase them again. Usually takea four or five times before they get the point. My kids and I love watching it.

Yeah, it's both super cool to see and also a little sad. It usually takes a couple rounds before they get the message and I just want to go give them a hug, and then they get into my flowers and I want to give them a trip to the freezer

I saw the same thing a couple years ago on my spring bear hunt, except it was a mama bear and she was beating the hell out of a very young bear.  I felt terrible, I mean she was pinning it down, swatting it, knocking it around and chasing it down a very steep hill.  She could have easily killed it if she wanted, he (it) kept its distance after a few beat downs.  Best thing ive seen was a small yearling blacktail doe, her and her sister (mom watched from 20-30 yards away), walked right up to me and stuck there nose 1'' from my face. So cool, and this was up north by marblemount, in the wild not a park setting.
