Had a couple of them in my yard several years ago......only once. That's a rare photo because they prefer to be in the treetops of a forest and aren't common at ground level. When I first saw the colors, I thought it was an escaped parrot or exotic bird.

Saw them for the first time last year if I recall correctly. They were eating the berries on my hedgerow same time last year. The only reason I got the picture is because I heard a loud thump and the dumb SOB flew into my window and knocked himself silly. Thankfully he didnt break his neck, but it was probably a good 15 minutes before he was in the right mind to fly away.

Must not be a lot of windows up on the top of trees for them to become familiar with. Once had a robin or some other flying nutjob attack a bathroom window for several days.

Great birds.  One of my favorites.  That bright red in their head comes from insects in their diet.

They used to come to my bird feeders on a regular basis, but I haven't seen one in a couple of years.  I keep a list of the different kinds of birds that show up to my feeders, and there are many that have just disappeared over the years.  I attribute that to the huge amount of new housing development in the area where I live.  So much of the native habitat has turned into wall-to-wall houses.   That's progress, I guess.

Beautiful birds

The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
