Plumb your Coffee Maker
« on: June 16, 2022, 12:09:22 PM »
DIY Project. We bought a new Cuisinart coffee maker. The carafe is for 14 cups instead of 12 - I drink a ton of coffee. Pouring water into the machine by the carafe is awkward and usually ends up spilling water on the floor or counter. My coffee machine is next to the fridge. You can buy an Umjava kit on Amazon, get it in about a week and pay $25. Or, you can buy the parts yourself today and spend about $30. Remember to get the push connection parts. You're going to tap into the 1/4" fridge water line. DO NOT tap in above the fill motor on the back of the fridge. If you have an inline filter, tap into the water line between the filter and the fridge.
Drill with 7/16 drill bit
Wire snip
Painter's tape
1/4" hose
T-connection
Stopcock connection
Elbow
rubber grommet with 1/4" opening
Now, here's the Umjava installation video.

I wish I'd done this for all of my coffee machines. As long as your inline filter is current, you'll extend the life of your coffee machine by not introducing minerals into it.
