Congrats on the tag! Unbelievable luck for you and your family in those recent moose draws. Best of luck to your wife and son-in-law.

I still can't believe buckjunkie's bull from a couple years ago, it looks like something from alaska.  Lots more info to dig up but the research is part of the fun.  Can't wait to see my son in laws face if/when he puts a dinosaur moose on the ground!!

I'm wishing you guys the best! But On my 2019 hunt moose were very scarce in all the places I spent time in. 12 days of moose hunting and only saw 2 baby bulls on the first day. Only saw maybe 6 or 7 moose total and that may have been counting some of them twice. If I could go back in time I would start my hunt earlier, like maybe on day one instead of waiting until Oct 8th. That dang tag is still in one of my junk drawers somewhere.  :bash:

I drew it in 2013 and had same issues, warm weather not good, scouted all summer- saw very few, (side note: had scouted the exact area/pond that Hirshey killed her good one, in the same year, very little sign of moose there for us....guess we were wrong LOL) 6 trail cams out-only got pics of 1 decent bull and a cow and calf. I hunted hard the first 12 days and saw 2 dinker bulls. Hunted 2 weekends after that with nothing, then on last week there Ended up killing one that was well below my modest goal, but that's OK, I got to do something most never will in WA St.

Its a HUGE area to cover. Best advice is to not chase ghosts. Many times you will here about good bulls being seen at X spot. They most likely will not be there when you get there, and you will spend a ton of time traveling back and forth. Talk to the "cowboys" working the cattle, they spend alot of time out there and have a good pulse of what's going on.

Give me a shout and I will give you any and all the info I collected in my time up there.

Some good advice we were given after drawing a quality permit ( not an OIL) is not to chase “hear says”. Some guy says he seen an animal at x spot, then you run to it… waste of time. Focus on an area and put your time into it. Not  a for sure deal but less running around is best.

Sorry I didn’t get back to people quicker, I’ve read all the PM’s and trying to digest it all and put a game plan together. We really appreciate all the PM’s and other info passed on!  I learned with my own 2019 bull moose tag that chasing ghosts (great way to put it) is a waste of time. This unit is almost too big, no way we will be able to scout it all, I’m hoping we can get a good starting point, talk w biologist and gets some boots on the ground. Looking back, the Selkirk was much easier to scout.  These gas prices definetly will have an impact on us and getting to know as much as possible. When I drew the Selkirk I drove over from western Wa every other weekend after results came out. Not going to be able to do that this time, which really sucks. Anyway, again, really appreciate any info, and please know that info past on that is direct or sensitive won’t be posted.

My advice is scout on weekends when you don't burn vacation time, save all your vacation time for the hunt, plan as much time for the hunt as possible, moose numbers are only a small fraction of what they used to be. You could get lucky with a couple quick kills but plan lots of time for a worst-case scenario.

Thanks Dale, yeah, the son in law works 4-10’s and I get every other Friday off so we should have a decent amount of 3 day weekends!

Remember there's 40 Tribal permits for moose in those units as well. Some of the dumbest advice I've ever heard would be no not take chances and follow up on specific bull. Many of the biggest bulls killed in your units units we're done exactly that way. :twocents:

40!  :yike:

I may be high on that number. Was thinking 20 archery and 20 rifle. Might be less. It may have changed recently. Maybe 10 and 15 these days. I know on the south half it's considerably more, like 50.
