yakima north muzzy cow tag.
« on: June 14, 2022, 07:08:37 PM »
so my 16 year old son just drew the Yakima north youth cow tag with 5 points he is pumped, he will be shooting it with a muzzelloader. my first elk came out of the little Naches also a cow tag also when i was 16 so im probably more excited than he is. unfortunately it isn't the same as it was 25 years ago. but fortunately there is 4 units to look for elk in. we are usaually west side elk hunting so its been awhile (the little fart got a multi elk also) my question is where should we concentrate are time for scouting and getting him a opportunity to drop the hammer. The permit consist of tanem 336, manastash 340, umtanum 342, and naches 346. pm me if you would like. any and all pointers are appreciated thanks for your time.

There’s quite a few elk in all those units. I would spend my time in 346,336. Shouldn’t be a problem filling the tag that time of year.

I would hunt 346, for one if the special permit is during the general hunt only permit holders will be able to hunt that unit. Lots of elk in that unit with little to no pressure should be a great hunt for your son and you.

Lots of decent areas in the 346 and can say that without stepping a foot in that unit more than dozen times in the last 3 years.

Just in the Little Naches drainage alone with the logging and thinning that’s gone on, should be fun.

yes the hunt is from 0ct 1 to the 9th I'm the most familiar with Naches so that is where I'm thinking of starting.
