So I went to check to see if there was anything obstructing the toms from coming in to where I'm set up. I would have them gobbling as they headed uphill but only once has one actually showed up. Sure enough, there is a fence that is about a foot tall. That explains alot. Yesterday I decided to walk down the fenceline to see if there was any place that the fence was down. There was a couple birds gobbling every so often and I wanted to know where exactly their strut zone was. Due to the rain that day, I could walk very quiet so I wasn't really concerned about bumping them. Well as I suspected, the strut zone was just inside private property. The good news is that about 50 yds of the fence was down right around where they were strutting. I'm going to set up my buddy's blind who is deployed and said I could use it while he was gone just inside the tree line on a trail that leads up the hill and has a ton of sign along it. I figure, if they won't come in to that location, I can slip out of there and head up hill to my other set up and see if a "hen" moving away will motivate them.
