Honestly I never thought to weigh my ARs. Each has a purpose that they were setup for, as long as you hey fulfill that purpose I don’t really care.
If I was humping miles and miles all day, or building a “hunting rifle” then I would be cutting weight.

Now that I think about it, it might be fun to build a functional “skeletonized” AR just for fun. Tons of cool options to work with.
I have a few very nice hunting rifles, it might also be fun to eventually build an AR to replace my hunting rifle. It would take an incredibly built AR both weight wise and caliber to replace my Finlights.

But it would be fun trying.
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.

im asking cause ill be hunting coyotes with it, and like you said miles and miles of walking. I can't really take anything off of it to get the weight off. I guess i have to close my eyes on a weight and start walking when the time will come.

May be more about balance than weight. A suppressor makes most anything feel front heavy and slow to swing. I've actually added weight to the butt of a bolt gun and ended up with a better carrying package.

I have a 308 AR that weighs 5.9lbs with no furniture.  Sig red dot adds very little.  Suppressor is still in the works.

I agree with that.
Less ammo less weight.
I've carried my AR 15 and 10 in 308 .
I guess the weight bothers some more than others.
My 7 mag rifle is like a 10lb rifle.
 :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
I'm thinking the ar15 is better than the 10 though .

I set a goal of building a 5 lb AR.  I was able to get it to a little over 6lbs with an RMR sight.  I popped a Leupold on it for a deer hunt a while back and it comes in at 7lbs 6 oz. (no mag).

My main weight cutters were the carbon fiber barrel, Carbon fiber handguard and a minimalist buttstock.

For the buttstock did you use one of the end plates that attaches direct to the end of the buffer tube? Like these: https://vtsupply-com.3dcartstores.com/Guntec-USA-Skeleton-Style-Minimalist-Stock-Kit-AR10LR-308AR15-AR-15_p_1216.html If so, how'd you like it?

No - not sure if those were around when I built this about 9 years ago (hard to believe it has been that long!)

I used this: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/3022119912?pid=284899

Similar look, but it is adjustable which I really like.  I might have been able to shave an ounce or two with the one you posted - but I do like the adjustable stock so I might have eaten the extra ounce in favor of the function.

As far as comfort, it is just fine.  No complaints at all.  I also could drop 4 oz or so by losing the fore-end grip or replacing it with this:  https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2319453274?pid=917549.  And another ounce by removing the bad lever.

Like with backpacking, I found I was willing to add a few oz's in exchange for comfort/convenience.  Just have to be wary that ounces become pounds.

here is the build with the RMR - I have since replaced with a Leupold scope.

How are y'all getting these things so light?  My AR pistols, without a can or optic, weigh 6-7+ lbs.  I think my Seekins SP15 is right around 7 lbs with no optic or can on it so it's probably around 9-9+ with optic and a can.  I don't know how you get an AR10 under 6 lbs I know mine is 10+ just for the rifle alone.

Here. Feels heavy to me a bit

What length of barrel is on that? With the suppressor added, cutting back on the barrel length would save quite a bit of weight up front where you notice it the most.

My son bought me this a few months back.  An AR15 chambered in 308 (so not a typical AR10).  Still comes in at 5.9lbs.  Haven't looked at their 223 ARs, but no doubt they are lighter.

Not gonna lie ,checked it out ,looks awesome.
I just don't get where they are dropping the pounds without giving up strength.
But it does look good, probably feels good too.

It shoots amazingly well.  2 of my sons got AR10s about the same time.  One is a full Aero Precision build with a 20 inch barrel (I think - longer  than the others) and is heavy - about 9lbs with no furniture. Shoots great, but you definitely feel the weight. Think it will be a great distance rifle when we are done with it.  My other son had one built by a local guy based on Aero Precision upper and lower, but he went for light weight components - shorter barrel, short and lighter hand guard, etc).  Came in a little over 8lbs.  Had gas block issues and wouldn't cycle correctly when we tested it out.  Guy is fixing it.  Was afraid my POF would have harsher recoil, but it was pretty much the same as the others.  I've put about a 150 rounds through it, including a little rapid fire mag dumps, and not a single hiccup. As a bonus, I got it during some spring sales promotions, and got the rifle for about 1,600 and then POF had a rebate type deal where they sent me a nice little tactical scope plus rings for free.  Low to mid level scope, but i'll try running it and see how it holds up.

Sweet sounds awesome.
Mine is like an aero lower that I put together.
Then I just bought a BEAR crk upper 18 in barrel.
I put a drop in trigger,better extractor,adjustable gas block.
The upper was only like 299.00 before the covids.
Think I figured I only had like about 800.00 into the whole rifle.
Which is pretty good for an ar10.
Definitely running on the cheap,I'm sure it's a 10lb rifle or more who knows. I've never put it on a scale.
Here it is.
Pretty plain Jane,cut and dry.

Good looking rifle!

Idaho has a 16 pound limit on rifles.  Anything over that cannot be used to hunt with.  Not sure what the logic is of that...

And I thought my Seekins SP10 was heavy.  After seeing that I think I better just STFU and stop complaining about the weight of mine.  :o

I asked about this once and was told it's to avoid people hunting with 50 BMG's.

Yeah, were I to hunt with it, I'd need a healthy gun bearer! It's really fun to shoot. 6.5 Grendel, 24" BHW barrel with 3" break and 1/8 twist, Magpul PRS stock and furniture, Steiner 2-10X scope (not enough; should've gone to 16X), articulating bipod, RRA 2-stage match trigger, Vltor upper, Palmetto lower. I'm shooting the Hornady 123 gr SST, 2575 FPS

Looks good. Just got into ARs this year finally and having fun learning.

21 lbs with everything.

 :yike:

And I thought my Seekins SP10 was heavy.  After seeing that I think I better just STFU and stop complaining about the weight of mine.  :o

Good looking piece though!

Pretty rifle, I like it!
And to think if in a SHTF scenario and you run out of ammo, you can transition it to club mode.  :hello:

I get all giddy looking light weight AR gun porn

Good looking rifle!

Idaho has a 16 pound limit on rifles.  Anything over that cannot be used to hunt with.  Not sure what the logic is of that...

Yes.

I read an article many years ago.

Seems some guys were mounting 50bmg's onto steel tube frames, using Lazer range finders and super duper scopes at the time and reaching cross canyon for elk.

The powers that be determined that not to be something they wanted happening.

Loose the 30rd make and use a 10rd, or even a 5

5 & 10 round magazines are the same size.  One is pinned.

I have 10 round mags for both ar15 and 10.
There smaller, and when I carry with a normal rifle sling I don't have a mag stabing me in the back.
I don't need more than ten rounds ,extra weight.
I bought mine years ago ,way before this stupid new law.

10 rnd levels off better prone as well. I'd only run 30s when running my chest rig for CQB/PD stuff.
