So just thought I'd ask .....
Is a 175 grain bullet@2900 fps gonna get the job done or what.
Been trying to come up with a bear load.
That will roll a bear ,leave little tracking,I'm getting too old to chase bears in the thick stuff.
The bullet is Speer grand slam.
This was my starting load ,which is over max.
H1000@70 grain@3.2850 . loaded 10 test rounds.
Crono yesterday right at 2900. No pressure signs.
Shot six rounds at a paper plate. First 3 where all over.
Not sure cause I cleaned my rifle with copper cleaner and all this.
Punched three right in the bullseye.
Still got the plate ,I'll post picture here later.
Shot two through the crono,and two at a steel plate off hand.
But bumped my rifle checking a game cam an hour later ,so I have to check it all again.
Stupid me....

So a load like this with good shot placement gonna roll a BEAR DRT ,or what.

Any body eles wanna share 7mm mag loads feel free.
65 grains of 4831 with a 160-150 grain bullet is another I use a lot.
63 grains of hybrid v100 with 150-140 grain I use a lot too.

Speer Grand Slam, 175G at 2900!  Oh ya that will work!  As with anything shot placement.  I have only killed 3 bears but the shoulder is my spot to drop them.

Sounds like you have all the right ingredients! Speed, accuracy, & good bullet. I have a 7mm mag load that consists of a 160gr Nosler Accubond, over a dose of IMR 4831. Recipe is out of the Nosler book and is 3000+ FPS. I have only tagged couple deer that I remember with a 7mm mag. A lot of folks sure swear by it. You surly should be set with your load.

My son's 308 loads kinda bomb out yesterday though.
46 grains blc-2 ,165 grain Speer grand slam,his savage axis only hit 2660 fps .
47.5 grains is listed max.
They seemed ok for accuracy,but muzzle velocity was a little low. Might try bumping them to max.
Crono his other loads from last year,with 150 grain bullets with the same 46 grain ,puts him 2775 or just under 2800 .

I have two "go to" commercial rounds for my Browning A Bolt 7mm RM...

The first is an oddity, the round that my rifle just happens to like better than any other.  It is the Geco 7mm Bonded 172gr, velocity of 3092 fps on the chrono and sub 1/4 inch accuracy in my rifle. 

The second is a round that I don't have to horde like a crack head if I see it in the store.  Norma 170 gr Oryx bonded bullets, 2900 fps as advertised and sum MOA in my rifle.  Not a lot of things in this world I would be afraid to shoot with either of these rounds.

Here went out to the truck and took a pic of the plate.
The green is first shots fired and all over the place .
Super clean bore ,brand new win brass,the one in green close to the bullseye was cold,clean bore.

Then the three touching was the next three after I let the barrel cool down.

100 yards from a tripod rest.
Only made up 10 rounds ,other two through the crono,other two at steel off hand at 100.

So it looks promising,gonna make up another 10,maybe 15,
Go ahead make sure I'm sighted in for bear season.
I hit my rifle pretty hard when I got out the truck an hour later ,so I have no choice but to check it again.

63 grain hybrid v100@150grain Nosler ballistic tip@3050FPS
Standard COAL will print the same group consistently.
But will turn your meat to hamburger,so I'm trying something a little different this year.
Heavy for caliber,slow that bullet down below 3,000FPS.
And a bullet that will hold together a bit better. At longer range the BT is probably fine,but 200 and under its a little explosive.

I just went and resized my ten cases .....
And the primers are flatten just a bit.
So that's definitely my max charge,with my rifle.

I put a 7RM barrel on this year. Pulled a 264 win mag barrel off. Just could not get consistent performance out of it. 

Picked Berger 180 hybrids and 175 ELDX to play with. Retumbo seems to be the magic go-go juice in this case.

I still have some final tuning work to do but I’ll end up somewhere around 71.5-72.0 grains. Nudging 3000 fps out of 26” 8 twist.

I've never tried retumbo .
3000fps on a 175 grain ,if I ever see that powder available I'll give it a try.
My barrel is only 24" in though.
I did reload my rounds ,but with work and all haven't got out to fire them off,double check my sight in.
Here on the dry side ,trying to get this stuff done before fire danger and all this crap comes up.
Bear season coming soon.

Historically I haven’t been a fan of Retumbo. It hasn’t given the results I was looking for in other cases like 300RUM and the 264 Mag. But my smith told me to give it a try. He’s a big 7 rem mag guy and swears by Retumbo. Sure enough it wants to produce with tiny groups, top velocity and low speed variation. Pretty temp stable as well.  Give it a try.

I'm running a 27" 1 in 8 twist in my custom and I'm getting 3050fps with h1000 and shooting tiny groups. Like stated above this is for my chamber, it is not a standard chamber.
