Nigh time fishing for walleye

Night time fishing for walleye,anyone doing it? Thinking about trying it this week.  Tips would be appreciated. Thinking about trolling crankbaits and perhaps slip bobber. I'll have bottom bouncer also. I can't see how this wouldn't be a blast

I caught a 12.79 lb'er at Banks on a black buzzbait casting up into the shallows looking for bass.  The buzz bait had a black double legged trailer on it.  I am sure it looked a lot like a rodent swimming, at least to the walleye.  Imagine my suprise.

I've caught them in sub 20 foot of water at night on the Columbia with whistle pigs + crawlers. Blade baits might work at night too.

Tried it once at Moses lake ( I think) we didn't catch any but other got a few

I used to night fish a bit in the summer in the Potholes area. A few observations:

Seemed like the bite didn't pick up til well after dark, hours even. And I never found it to be that great but it was fun.

If trolling, know your water. Lights can be blinding beyond the gunnels of the boat. Easy to crash in to rocks/reefs. Also you need to have your rod in hand to detect bites, this can get tiresome.

If casting (preferred) get parallel to shore and cast along it like you are bass fishing. Its much easier than trying to judge the shoreline and cast at it. Topwaters work pretty well and the walleyes will hit them repeatedly. Also crankbaits/swimbaits all w/dark profile.

Calm is better! Its no fun in the dark and the wind!

I will say that it is a nice contrast when its blazing hot out. The night sky and the crickets are a peaceful setting. Have fun and be safe out there!

We did this for several years at Banks Lake. It got good at dusk all the way to Midnight. We would cast parallel to shore or at a 30 degree angle, reel in real slow, we would use 4-5” rapalas, rattle traps, storm plugs, wiggle warts, whatever was gold, green or orange like a perch. I have certain gold/orange rapala with teeth marks all over it in my tackle box!!
One year we had just arrived and set up camp, I went out with a perch rattle trap and in 3 casts I caught matching 8 lb walleyes. Blew me away!
We caught several from 5-10 pounds. A few over 10 and the largest was a 14lber my brother in law caught on a windy dark night. My dad has a picture of it somewhere.
I took some buddies of mine who were from Minnesota over and they were out of their minds at how big the walleye were compared to back home.

damn,that's got me stoked.what a blast that had to be. I plan on trolling shallow and spot lock and cast and jig or slip bobber warfare
