I was in Bass Pro on Saturday and  today attempting to exchange my archery elk tag for a modern tag. Saturday and today they had to call were being told that I can’t exchange because I have multiseason tag.

Oh really??? No, I don’t have a multiseason elk tag. So they called a third time and finally got a real answer. That’s when I learned I can’t exchange my tag because I applied for special hunts (was not drawn) which really ticked me off.

Happened to me with deer too.  Still waiting on this BS process to get a multi season.

Wait, what? They won’t give the tags because you put in for special hunts? That should only matter if you’re exchanging for another weapon not multi season! You should probably call in yourself and get that clarified! I’m 90% sure that’s not right!

Since the MS process is FUBAR I wanted to exchange my rifle tag for archery but I can't because I had applied for a special permit.

Its always been that way, if you apply for special permits for one weapon then you cant exchange it for another weapon if you werent drawn. H3ll, everyone would be doing that.

Yes, I read it myself and I called them myself after I walked out of the store.  It's definitely their policy.

Yes, I agree and I learned it's historically been that way unless you apply for points only.

My issues with this instance is that the more than once, the W&F person on the phone told Bass Pro that I couldn't exchange because "he has a multiseason elk tag"....which I did not get selected for. Also the rules of having to make these choices months in advance leaves no room for major schedule changes in the future. Especially having paid up front for the applications.

In my mind it goes down like this:
Didn't get drawn? No problem.
Oh look, a business opportunity that takes up half the general archery season...let me go exchange for modern. Oh..I paid to apply for special hunts, didn't get drawn, and can't exchange? To me that's bad business. It's no fault of theirs that I have schedule change and WF doesn't loose revenue if I exchange a tag.  The person at W&F that I spoke with said, "you applied for special hunts. we consider that use of the tag." My rhetorical question is, "How does that help manage wildlife?"

Sorry I misread your post, I thought you were trying to get your multi season! Lie you have already found out what you were trying isn’t an option.

I think (hope) they will release the next batch soon.  There is no way they would leave all that money out there....assuming there is a substantial number of tags left.  I know I wouldn't buy one if they were released after labor day weekend.

I'll buy one up until opening day of archery elk.  But their hesitation is driving me nuts!  They know the number of tags left and they already have a list.  The next batch of people could've been notified by noon on Monday.  And they could have gotten 2 rounds of notifications in by 9/1 if they gave the people 7 days to purchase.  How their incompetence continues to exponentially increase blows my mind.
