Tuna recommendations?

Know it's getting last minute but looking at doing a tuna trip this year or next if I can't find an open spot. Anybody have a charter they recommend? Any harbor in Washington works for me, just looking for a good time and some fish. Thanks for any help.

Or book with one of Coleman's boats ...All River's.

Plenty of opportunities to book for this year. Tuna aren't even in range yet .. probably be August. Sept/ Oct is often the best fishing.
I think last year we may have been the last sport boat to run..2nd week of Oct. And we did really good.

So I've heard this, and I've also heard that Washington is just as good and there's no need to travel. I've heard places out of the north end of the peninsula are worse and the opposite as well. I'd like to keep it somewhere I can go stay the night before and come home late afterwards if I can but I'm getting alot of conflicting info on the importance of port geography.

Live bait is probably the most important factor.
Illwaco is good and generally closer to the fish by 10-15 miles.
Westport is where most charters run from because bait is good and generally available. And distance to fish is reasonable. Ive run from 30-75 miles over the years.
Lapush is good if your in the area. But it's hit and miss on numbers and no bait...troll game only.
Oregon can be good and bad... being close to warm water doesn't equal good fishing. Tuna like the front edge of warm to cold...that's why Westport has kinda become the go to...warm water hangs at the canyon's offshore creating that sea life meca...

How good tuna fishing in Washington is depends on the year and time. One week they will be 30 miles out of westport the next week they will be 70. Same with ilwaco or la push. They can all have great fishing but some years it’s a struggle like last year to get any fishing close enough. Going out and coming home with nothing on a charter is a real possibility. If I was going off Washington I would go to ilwaco.

The warm water just tends to sit closer to oregon more consistently. And they have a lot more good days.  Plus you have a better chance of catching bluefin. Hopefully it’s a good year. They are starting to get them off the Oregon coast. Washington should fallow soon.
