WDFW is nothing more than a group of paper educated idiots.

They swim in a world of paper fish.

Morons should all be fired and a private contractor should manage our resources.
Except for shanequa, she does a good job.  But seriously, I agree with you, this is such BS.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Not to mention the area 1 nearshore closure.  Because the king quota hit 29%.  Maybe don’t let people keep 22” fish as adults?  I know that would help in the early part of the season.

Only thing is you would release a 22 incher and then the encounter would close the fishery.  :chuckle: This state

This info really hampers my plans to spend a lot of money in small towns this summer. Since I'm getting dinged on every fish I imagine, then I imagine no more fish will be released from my boat. They've created their own problems. This state can suck it.

Luckily we never catch any shakers or wild fish when we’re fishing anywhere!  Kind of surprising, guess we’re just that good!😉😂

Problem is they don't care what you or I report...they are making up the numbers as they go.

Do the agreed upon quotas include encounters? If not, this really seems like a legal issue that the state is doing something wrong.

Also, are tribal and commercial numbers calculated with encounters or physical dead fish?

If they are using nets or dip nets I think the encounter is either the fish is dead or there wasnt an encounter. Im not sure if there is a mortality associated with a fish that momentarily gets caught in the net then swims out of it.  There is a mortality that has been studied with fisherman encounters with fish.

I agree that fishermen do cause mortality with encounters, but to assume people have encounters is wrong. At 5 to 1, I go out and immediately catch and bonk one fish. The fish checker assumes I hooked 5 others, and checks 6 fish off the quota. Seems odd they would actually do that, but who knows what the truth is.

And depends on the intelligence of the fish checker.  We had one a couple years ago not even acknowledge that there were 3 kings out of 8 fish in the box.  Marked them all coho

I'll just say some of these comments are spot on and some are off the mark. I feel like this topic comes up every year.

I think the main problem is the increasing base of recreational anglers and lack of released fish to accommodate them. Puget Sound fisheries are doomed, ya'll have no habitat anymore, restoration is happening slower than development of the same habitat type they are trying to make. And the general disassociation between the public and where their food or others (sportsmans) actually come from leads the public to view harvest in a bad light.

Suing the federal government and the state has become big business for non-profits. By law all their expenses are paid for if the win the case, therefore can hire the largest legal team they can assemble for free. Then they use the lawyers to exploit loopholes to close hatcheries, fisheries etc. under the guise of preserving the resource.

Just wait, until next year when the state drops their "Capture with a camera not on a hook campaign."
