I have a hard time trusting WDFW studies/surveys.  They do this same garbage to their employees.  They ask pointed questions that can be manipulated, then come up with biased results.  This reminds me of the countless surveys I took when I was employed by them.  They will not survey themselves back into popularity.

Sifting through it. Only 4% of folks hunt and 10% of the population opposes hunting altogether.

Two thirds of Washington residents (66%) are satisfied with the variety of options to enjoy fish
and wildlife resources throughout the state; 37% are very satisfied. This compares to only 9%
who are dissatisfied.
A majority of residents participated in hiking (65% did so) and wildlife viewing (56%) in
Washington in the past 2 years, and 4% of residents hunted in Washington in the past 12
months...."

I wasn't aware of this survey until I looked at the WDFW home page. 10% of the population disapproves of hunting.  A majority of those must be on the WDFW commission!!

WDFW should use those percentages for the make up of the commission.  Equal representation based on their survey.     And yes, I'm serious.

One other thing of note is the fact that the percentage for folks that answered "Dont know" went up in most areas.

That’s because it was sent to the people they planned on it going to. How else are you going to control the results. Our commission has the whole WDFW so screwed with our hands tied behind their back I wouldn’t even waste my time taking a survey. Until we fix that commission our voices are not going to be heard at all. Boat Insley and all Democrats out. Otherwise you are just as big of a cause of lost opportunity  as the game commission themselves

Ya its right up there with "contact your representatives and tell them to vote no" yada yada etc. etc. about gun issues/legislation, I'm tired of sending messages to murray and cantwell  as they will NEVER vote outside party lines, no way, never.

11% of survey respondents were hunters and 36% fished in the last 2 years If anything I would say we got a better shake than our demographics indicate, not sure about fishing.

These percentages are what I was referring to.  10% of the commission can be the nay sayer/sayers, the rest supporters.

I'd say that 90% of people who had disapprove comments on spring bear also disapprove of all hunting.

Responsive Management is the most respected wildlife survey company in the country.  The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has been doing this survey at the nation level every year since 1973 in conjunction with the first National Hunting and Fishing Day and the lowest support for hunting for the initial question of do you support legal hunting was 73%.

I think some of you nay Sayers need to dig a little deeper. I think this is a good survey and it helps Affirm that the population supports hunting even tho most dont do so.

The survey percentage that the anti-hunting birds and butterfly type crowd (both inside and outside of WDFW) desperately cling to is the Wildlife Viewing component.

They want to use that singular data point to paint the picture that a massive portion of the populace actively and intentionally participates in wildlife viewing activity, in much the same way that we hunters actively and deliberately go hunting.

Clearly, this is absurd at best, and/or intentionally fraud at worst.

No rational person would consider people that enjoy seeing a hummingbird flit by their kitchen window, or see a mother deer and her fawn in a meadow by happenstance as they speed by in their cars as dedicated and/or devoted "Wildlife Viewers".

But, the anti's use this [flawed/inflated/skewed] data point to claim that these so-called wildlife viewers are incredibly important stakeholders whose majority numbers make hunting and fishing stakeholders a small and inconsequential minority in comparison...and are therefore deserving of the majority of the seats at the WDFW citizen input table and the Commission. 

This is EXACTLY the approach that Koontz/Smith/Rowland/Baker/Ragen types (and their cohorts inside WDFW!) are pushing, and we should absolutely be pushing back hard against this type of gerrymandered nonsense.

And Anti hunting groups and some department folks like to not include Pitman Roberts funds as sportsmen contribution.  They like to infer that the majority of folks buying guns, ammo bow and arrows are not sportsmen, and/or the hold viewpoints contrary to sportsmen.

What this tells me is the WDFW needs to STOP pandering to the 25% and start listening to the 75%.
