Mathews monster

Alright fellas,
Give me hell. I just put a down payment on it and plan on picking it up next week. I shot the Admiral, the Dream season, the alpha max, and the monster. I am by no way a speed chaser, but dont mind a little zing.
After killing My three biggest bucks, and 5 elk with my bowtech blackhawk in five seasons, you know where my heart was. Sad to say, in MY opinion the top dog bowtech didnt compare.
My question being, to those that know their shiast, what do you think?
For me it felt great once it was set at 70# instead of 73. It felt smooth, though alittle tough at the end. It is slightly heavier than i am used to, MUCH longer axle to axle, and top heavy. It seems to hold nice, draw smooth, and flys like a bat outta hell!
Before I pay it off, and go riggin this thing up with the latest and greatest, any words to the wise? I heard someone say it was not to accurate, and then others rave on about its accuracy.
Any thoughs good or bad (with a purpose) would be appreciated.

WB- I would keep the poundage down on your bow if you can. If it draws smoother at 70 vs. 73 imagine how much smoother it would be a 65! I've shot a few of them and they are much smoother at lower poundage and still put out impressive speeds. I watched a guy shoot a 26" 65# Monster with 400 g arrow at 273fps. Another guy I talked to claimed he was shooting shuttle t's as a broadhead test with his and they flew like darts at 290fps ( I think he tested them out to 40 yards). Same guy is getting 6" field point groups out to 70 yards so I would say the accuracy is there. But then nothing beats Fisher Price!!

One other concern I have. I also "heard" that tunning an arrow could be a bit of a pain??? I more than likely will shoot it aroud 65 pounds, as I really dont care about speed. Think it may still be a problem?

Hard to tell WB what kind of problems you might have tuning w/o knowing your info like draw length what rest your gonna shoot and what arrow. I know with the lower brace height it's gonna be a little more touchy than a bow with a 7" BH so form and follow through needs to be good, though that goes for any low BH bow IMO. I am by no means an expert but I would say you definately need to go with a good drop away or their downforce rest if you're pushing any major speed 290 +. From what I've seen so far from the couple of guys that have them, they are not running into any major tuning issues. As a matter of fact the guy with the 26 inch draw was using a buscuit without problems.

Good purchase and I'm sure will drive tacs.  I dont think that you will have a problem getting to tune, as long as your using the correct spined arrow.  I couldnt let me Switchback XT go but was so tempted.  I will wait til next year to see what comes out.

I know you will make it work for ya. you have a knack for that.  Any of the new bows will work.  When you pick up your bow, you'll have to bring it buy.  I finished up that target in the yard, can shoot out to 60 yards as long as you don't mind standing in the the road.  Dad

If you are not worried about speed why would you buy that bow??   I am shooting 444 grain arrows at 260 fps out of a 57 lb bow.  My bow is at least 1 lb lighter and few inches shorter ata. 

Now with that being said I plan on buying the monster this year, but I do want speed relative to a 450-500 grain arrow.  I am hoping for 260+ fps with a 500 grain arrow and 65-70 lb draw.  That'll make for some serious ke!!!!

I say crank that baby up. According to most owners manuals, bows work the best at there paek design settings.

I also wonder why you would buy a bow with a 6 in brace if your not a speed freak? that being said I thought it was a good bow for a speed bow. not super quiet, not super forgiving with a 6 in brace.. but a good bow, my advice would be to turn it down as low as it can go, yes they perform best maxed out, but I have never seen any diff in groups at the lowest or highest poundage my bows can go.. IMO most people go about a speed bow wrong, you can shoot much less weight and still get stupid fast speeds !! so I would shoot it around 60-65 and expect 270- 280 fps which IMO is PERFECT for hunting depending on your draw length and arrow/broadhead combo..then since it has a short brace and will be less forgiving...... PRACTICE and PRACTICE SOME MORE!! enjoy the new toy

After much consideration, I put the monster back on the shelve.
I did remove a reezen 6.5 though. Got it all outfitted and finaly started practicing again. After knocking the rust off, I will have to say, I think this bow is gonna have a home for a while.
What is your thoughts on a Fuse string suppressor? The bow is quick and quit, but I think it could get quieter yet.

One more thing,
What glue do you all use on your carbons? I hace gold tip now, and it sucks! I think I used Goat glue before, but cannot remember. Whatever it was, it was a lot better.

Actually like the fuse better than the new Mathews suppressor has a sleaker/nicer look to it IMO.

When you're talking glue for carbons are you talking about for the fletching, inserts or a good all around glue? I use Fastfletch on standard inserts and obviously the HIT glue for my hidden inserts. As for fletching I have a couple different types I use depending on the vane, if I'm using a wrap or for feathers. I've been using the Easton super glue as a experiment on everything lately and it seems to be doing really well. The others I use are Bohnings fast set gel and AAE's fast set gel. Standard glue is Bohning fletch tight platinum for feathers. I don't use anything from GT.

Bill check out the new Dead end string stop by Mathews.  It looks like a good one.  Go to Mathews web site it tells a little about it. It has a nice vee to capture the sting, the fuse version does as well.  I have heard that the STS allows the sting to slip to the side.  I have told ya what the sting stop did for my bow, I would highly recommend it.

Just trying to feel it all out. That reezen is the heat! i shot it so much today, I went way beyond tired (thats a two arrow fee if your curious!). I may not be able to shoot for a few months starting in june, but cant get enough of it right now.
Wife is already saying I better put more elk meat in the freezer or I have hell to pay! (then complains that she wants a bow instead of a rifle go figure!)

So, what's the final on the monster.  How would the guys rate it that have tried it.  I found it to be very accurate at 20 yards.  It pulls a little stiffer, but fast.  I am currently shooting a Bowtech Alligence.  I was looking at possibly getting the monster.  Are there any better bows that one could recommend?

I shot all kinds waiting for "the one". The monster wasnt bad, in fact as the thread goes, i almost bought it. I did like the alphamax about equal to it though, but figured if i liked them equally, then speed would be the ice breaker.
Then I shot my reezen. Yep love that bow!
Biggest thing that I did not like was how top heavy it was, as well as the last 2 inches of the draw suck, which means It will feel like a mack truck in front of a critter.
I never felt this "hand shock" that everyone complains about, nor did I feel it was too loud.

I got a Reezen also, fricken awesome bow!

I also switched to the reezen this year and it is the most comfortable bow I have ever shot. It feels like I had it custom made for me! Shot it a bunch this weekend and the shoulder feels great. I usually sell my bows at the end of the season but this year I think I will hold on to this one!

Bought a Reezen 6.5 Awesome shooting bow. Shot 2 robinhoods in two weeks with it. One at 20 yds and one at 40 yds. At 67lbs and 410 gr, 28" arrows shooting 272 fps

I went and shot the Monster and liked it.  Shot the Hoyt due to some recomendations, but ended up going with the Mathews reezen.  I seemed to like it the best.  They are all good bows.  The Hoyt was smooth on draw back, but just liked the Mathews the best.  I will be throwing my Bowtech Allegiance up if anyone is interested.

bottom line if you can shoot 2 inch groups at 50yards would'nt  you rather shoot 275 vs 250. I would .
