Who did It
«
on:
May 17, 2009, 07:19:31 PM »
Came in from fishing sea bass and ling cod at westport and the biologist came down to check our fish. She said did you see the sea lion someone shot and pointed over to the dock. There sat a half dozen sea lions and one had an arrow sticking out of it;s side and people were taking pictures off it and she said the wardens had been down checking it out. Last week we saw one grab a loon and shook it and then ate it so they must be hungry.

They should have $100 special tags. In flow Might save some of those positions in the department. Those damn things are all over and have no fear of humans. Bad deal. Shouldn't have happened but they should re-adjust the regs. and open it up.

They had it on chanell 4 news and pictures of it in our yesterdays paper. Yesterday I watched 2 national marine fisherys officers try to use a long pole with line on the end with a slip knot try to put it over the arrow and try to pull it out. It really got mad when they got close and it looked like that if it had legs you would;nt want to get close. It had been branded so must have been up to bonnieville.

you guys really joke about this stuff on here. But you dont think about how this will affect our hunting!!
Just because there is an arrow in this sealion that will mean that all bow hunters are at fault and now look out. The seasons will
get shorter and sooner or later there will be no archery season. It was little things like this that made WA loose there
hounds and baiting rights. Do we blame it on the not heads or the ones jokeing and not takeing care of our rights. You make the call!

The truth is that the sea lions are trouble on the Columbia and the protection is excessive. Should governance accidentally find the light of reason someday we may have archery tags for seals.
Food lines are long, could have been for dinner. My uncle tried something cooked in seal fat up in Kotzebue. Apparently, it's a flavor that takes some effort to appreciate.

I went down to the dock this morning and the big news was they found out who shot the sea lion. It was a kid living on one of the boats he is in colorado now and the hunt is on. The game wardens got on the boat and confiscated a cross bow and some arrows and one of the wardens told a friend of mine arrows were found in a couple sea gulls that matched the ones in the sea lion. The sea lion was still sitting on dock 21 this morning.

Arrow or Bolts? Sounds like they matched them, but I hope there is no head hunting going on. Just looking to hang someone so all the
shut up?

I think they are bolts this morning we were working on our boat and it poped up about 5 feet from me and rolled on it;s side and you could see it sticking out. It hund around for about 20 minutes and looked fine but he comes up so close he can scare you.

Those guys got thick skin and a solid layer of blubber. If it was a bad hit it doesn't surprise me that he is still kickin'. But damn, It can't feel good though.
