Cool. That's why I wanted opinions. My first instinct was Elk or deer, but given they are in velvet right now coupled with the freshness of the tree damage, I thought it might be the elusive blue mt bear. I was not aware elk would do that kind of damage to a tree with just their foreheads. The long black hair in the middle of it also led me to conclude bear.
But I will defer to the more knowledgeable masses on this one. I am a very new bear hunter.
