Usually not more than 10 feet tall. But almost impassable to walk thru.

Hawthorn - planting, pruning, care for this useful hedge

Is this Hawthorn, and if not, what is it?  Do bear eat it?  Seemed tough like a raw apple.   This was 1st of September.

 :yeah:

Bears will eat rose hips.  Usually it is a late season food for them as the berries will ripen and soften after the first cold spell.   They also will become sweet after the first freeze.   Very seedy but is edible and actually taste pretty good later in the season.

 :yeah:
Wish I could help.
Berries are a month behind where I always find bears this time of year, they were no where to be found. Hunted all day and finally found some fresh sign 2-3k feet higher than we are used to. So much green grass up there. Getting back out in a couple days and hoping I have better luck.

This was last year during the heat. I was in the same location 2 weeks ago and the grass if he was in it would be about to his nose. The bush in front of him is a hawthorn thicket.
