Took 6 days to find him, but finally happened.  Best bear yet

That is an awesome looking bear! Congrats!

Way to get it done with the lever action and iron sights!

Bear hunter shot.

My dad listened to this while saga play out on his scanner.  Wild rescue, getting a helicopter to the scene and the partner having a strobe light may have saved the hunters life.  Great coordination by those involved in the rescue.  Should be a way better story written about this.

Shooting a bear with that rifle is priceless!

Success this evening. Been watching a spot for several months that has about 4 different bears in it and set up a tree stand well before the season to see if I can catch them coming on a worn trail they were frequenting close to the river. Been in the stand several times with no success a few times since the season started. Snuck into the stand this afternoon around 3:30 and had the sound of movement about 30 minutes later in the timber to my left. Hit the mouth call 'Fawn in Distress' wail a few times and a brought in a doe under the stand, then all hell broke loose. Behind me I suddenly heard a loud splash in the swamp area on the river's edge. I could hear something barreling through the swamp and brush. About a minute later this bear popped out from the brush line 30 yards away. I lost my dad last year and he had an old lever action 30-30 that he grew up which he passed down to me. He was always so enamored with bears as in his youth he never saw one where he grew up and hunted. Open sights made for a perfect choice along with have a part of my dad there with me. He dropped in his tracks. He was bigger than I thought when I walked up on him. First time calling one in and I will definitely try it again...he RAN into the clearing! Had some serious help getting him out.- you know who you are...THANK YOU!

Now if only you knew a taxidermist!

Called in a pair of nasty looking coyotes over the weekend but no bears, week off then after it again the following weekend without the kiddos.

It's going on midnight. And with the crew gathered this evening they headed in to meet up to a downed bear. Few more hours before it's out. I am at the truck a waiting their arrival. Can't wait to see them back safe. Still a bit shook up from my recent accident. Wishing I was able to help haul. But helping how I can.

Update 2 am. Still hauling. I am tired just waiting for arrival. Boys must be tired.

Final update 3:30 am and bear is back at truck.
I am sure pics will follow soon. But super excited, yet tired and gotta get it home in the next few hours and ready for butcher in the morning.

Great start to the season. Well earned.
