I find it interesting that bears are found in fresh burns like that.....what is it that attracts them to the burn??

Looks to be a decent bear.  Bet it was a bugger keeping the meat clean.

Curiosity killed the bear.🤣

Maybe bears have a food migration and his source took him thru there.🤔

I was thinking they are creatures of habit and before the area burned...it provided a good food source.  Thus they are looking for food in an area that usually has it.  I have heard of many bears getting killed in burns.  I have also been on wildland fires where bears were in the fresh / new burned out areas daily.....always found it to be weird.   :dunno:

The dust was bad, 1-1 1/2 deep. He had been in the water. Alot of area the fire went around. He had over an inch of fat on his back. Decided not to take the hide after taking care of the meat.

Two cheap tarps, one to roll the animal  on to (keeps it from getting  dirtier) and one to have  all your  clean stuff  on game bags, game bags with meat.

I always keep one of those emergency blankets in my pack just for keeping meat clean or for emergency shelter or whatever. They weigh about 4 oz and are 6x8’ I believe. Then you can wrap your meat bags on the meat shelf of your pack to keep your pack clean .

Will be doing this. The tarps would be nice but my pack is running out of room.

Those emergency blankets always tear on me. I've got another light weight tarp Ill use until it gets torn up and nasty.

I think cheap tarps would be cheaper and also take up less room if you did the setup right

I keep a full size contractor garbage bag in my backpack. It works for a poncho in a pinch and can be opened up to keep meat clean.

The emergency blanket cost 9$, weighs around 8oz and takes up 6”x4”x2”. In your pack. I haven’t ever had one tear or anything but I wouldn’t expect them to hold weight.
