Mountain goat question
« on: August 13, 2022, 07:36:44 PM »
I know where a goat is hanging out that is pretty easy access. I got within 30 yards of it today and wanted to get a picture. It was behind a brushy alder or willow type bush. I should have taken a picture of it but to get a good one I would have needed to move another couple yards. I waited for the wife to come up to see it and by the time she got up to where I was at it headed over the cliff.

There were a few well used beds in the area and I want to put a trail cam up to see if I can get some good pictures. One of the beds is on a ledge that Is about big enough to set 2 basketballs on and no access. Another bed that looks like its been used a few times is in a better area that I may be able to get a camera on. I am wondering if there is anything I can use as an attractant for it. Is salt a waste of time? I would like to set the camera up fairly close to this bedding area but not so close as to spook it.

Is this a pipe dream? Or do any of you think its doable?

Thanks,
HntnFsh

The mountain goats on the Mt Rose and Mt Elenor trails above Lake Cushman, are attracted the the salt from the hikers pee along the trails.
So I would think salt might work.  :dunno:

If I remember correctly there was a well known spot to see them outside of mazama where they'd lick some kind of natural salt

Pee soaked sponge hung on a tree limb. It will find it. Don't bring anything up there from domestic goats for scent though.
