East Side of Quilomene Deer Unit
« on: August 20, 2022, 11:38:57 AM »
I drew the Quilomene Rifle tag and will be hunting it this November. I’m familiar with the West Side of the unit and the Colockum area for elk and chukars. I’ve not hunted the east side of the unit(the area that buts up to the Columbia River) and I’m curious if anyone has seen many  mule deer on the east side. It appears to be really open and rocky with not a lot of cover.

Congrats on the draw!

I just love that area.

Definitely be prepared to huntnthe east side as well.

It has plenty of cover for deer to disappear, but you cal also glass some large areas over there.

Enjoy your hunt.

The better portion that did hold deer just burnt. Whiskey dick is torched along with the bottom end of skukumcuk. You might pre scout during Elk season but probably wouldn’t waste fuel that low. We had the tag last and never saw a shooter buck down low. Concentrate along the head end of the bigger canyons at the tree line. That unit not what it once was :(

The fire changed things up for sure. There are a couple of areas that we located some shooters last year down in the sage brush on the west side. I never did see any decent bucks hunting the higher elevations during the elk hint. I guess I’m going to have to scout that much harder.

haven't been in there since the fire but we had great luck parking at the first sub station past the wind farm visitor center. Not sure what a shooter means to you but this one worked for me.

That is an awesome deer. Exactly what I’m looking for in Washington. Thanks for the info.

16 points. I’m sure this will be my one and only quality mule deer hunt in Washington.
