Lost Lake by Rimrock
« on: May 23, 2009, 01:50:41 PM »
Hi Guys,
I want to take my kids up Lost Lake to do some trout fishing, does anyone have an ideas how fishing is up there?? :dunno:  I never been up that way, is it kids friendly?  Just looking for a place to fish around Yakima for me and my kids, not to serious.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Austrian Hunter

It is pretty kid friendly, they should have a ball.  Try using salmon eggs under a bobber or a nightcrawler.  Worked real well for us last year anyway.

That's one of the lakes we have camped at in the past elk hunting. It should be very kid friendly, good luck.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

The best way to get there is to take the Tieton Rd., the major left just past the Ranger station, well-signed and all, and instead of taking the first right past the bridge, stay of the main road for about 2 miles and and take the Milk Creek Rd up the hill.  You'll hit the main road-can't remember the number-take a left then a quick right and drive up to the lake.  If you can avoid the Memorial Day weekend, it's a great place for kids to fish.  My son and I hit it regularly before we can start getting into the back country lakes.  Good lesson, too, for kids and how not to treat a lake-lots of trash left ostensible by people who love the outdoors.  WDFW planted 5k fish in it, Clear got 8K this week.

As your heading up the Tieton on Hwy 12 take a right on the 1500 Rd. Go up about a quarter of a mile and there are some ponds on the right if you turn down a small road to them.  Not huge fish just right for small kids to have a blast thou. :)
I've slowed down enough in my old age to finally let the game catch up to me

I was going to suggest Clear.  Its beautiful and easily accessed.  Lots of fish.

After running by Lost Lake today and staying long enough to catch a limit of fish, I'd suggest Clear, too.  Lost is a dump after the weekend.  The day use area on the N. side of the lake would be cool for kids, we go there a lot even in the fall and winter when it's closed.

Thank you all for the suggestions,
We went up Lost Lake on Sunday, we got there really early and my kids got yelled at by some rude campers, the place was just overloaded with camps, my kids didn't even make any noise the people up were just plain out rude.  We left just 30 min after we got there and I took them to Clear Lake.  We camped overnight had an absolute blast, but no fish :'(  My kids still had a ton of fun, it was their first overnight camping trip :IBCOOL:

Thank you all for your kind suggestions!!!!!!!!!!
