Tom,  lots of pintail in the bays east of anacortes along with greenwings. A chance for some sea ducks as well during the winter.

Thanks, lokidog!  I'll make good use of the tip.  No sea ducks over here, so help with them is appreciated.  And of course the Pintails.  We have good numbers of Greenwings here, but I've never really set up for them properly, and therefore have very few images I'm pleased with.

Here are a few more duck pics for Snipe:

Awesome Teal shots, Wes!  I love that warm light on them.  They're a species that have never been easy for me.  Very nicely done.

Thanks Tom.  My wood duck spot usually has a pair or two of teal, cinnamon or green wing, you never know what will show up.  The most frustrating is the hen hooded merganser that never brings her mate.  Do you have any drake hooded merganser shots you would share?

Of course!  I'd never gotten any Hooded Merg drake images that I was happy with until this past spring, when the ice was breaking up at the mouth of the Methow River, where it joins the Columbia.  I found the breaking up of the ice to be an excellent opportunity to photograph a variety of diving ducks.  It was darn cold, though.  See the funky stuff on the front of the drake's head in the first pic?  It's ice.  There was probably some stuck to my head, too :).
