Hip Boots
« on: September 04, 2022, 11:53:38 AM »
Need new hip boots, for hunting, not “hip” boots that the kids wear!

Any moose and duck hunters that can hip me to a good pair?  My rubber ones are done-zo.   Need something to cross cricks, be somewhat tough, stay dry and be able to hike comfortably in.

Thanks

Check out the LaCRosse Big Chief...very comfortable to walk in and extremely durable! Been using a pair for trapping the last few years and they have held up well!

Picked up a pair of frogg toggs with canvas uppers.  comfortable, easy to walk in.
As for longevity, yet to be seen. owned for about 1 1/2 years. holding up well so far.

I recently bought a pair of these but haven't yet had the chance to try them.  I will during blacktail season I'm sure.  I didn't have great luck with standard hip boots for being comfortable and walking for miles in.

 :yeah:
Those are an ankle-fit and likely your #1 option, imo.

#2 option would be something like these https://www.chotaoutdoorgear.com/products/chota-hippies
stocking foots where you need an external boot. Can not vouch for these, but heard decent reviews; look like you could hike in them all day, not sure of the material's durability.

Reminded me I need some...

I've noticed that it's gotten really, really hard to find a good pair of hip waders lately.  Used to be available in a pretty wide variety, rubber, canvas, neoprene etc., but all I can ever seem to find locally now are the super cheap almost disposable rubber ones.

I really like them for saving wear and tear on my more expensive chest waders.  My preference has always been for the canvas duck kind, they seem to hold up the best.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
