Cattle grazing

When are the cows out of the NF I normally hunt modern but have a multiseason this year so was out archery hunting kind of a nuisance when you are sitting In a blind and 4 cows come in and stay there for 6 hours and the deer no longer come in that day

Pet irritation of mine.
I have seen a number of wonderful places for either watching wildlife or hunting/fishing completely devastated by grazing on public lands.
Year around waterholes turned into feted brown sloppy swampy stinky yuk with flies all over.
Vegetation gone from the entire shoreline.
Makes it so no one will use it, which turns into "Hey, nobody uses it anyway".
A couple places they put up so much fence someone that did not know would think it is private. And that is the way they treat it.
Actually, they might treat it better if they owned it.

Cattle will destroy your salt/bait sight if you are parked over one.

Normally they get pulled out between Sept. 24 - Oct. 8.

We used to round them up around the end of September through early October in the Kettle Crest range. We tried to get them all out before rifle deer. Sometimes it didn’t work out the way we wanted an and a few took longer to find.

Our property is just big enough that I have never felt the urge to fence it and we don’t have any neighbors as it’s surrounded by FS land. We did finally have to build a 3 strand fence about an acre big around our buildings because the guy down the valley has range cows and they would get under our pole building and crap and pee all over the concrete. I’m still very pro-range cows though. I help that gentleman do his butchering in exchange for beef.

Big herds in Utah left huge areas a devastated,  dusty barren landscape.  They ran the deer and elk out for the rest of the year.  Terrible to head to your spot and find 3 -4000 sheep had just passed thru or,worse, we're still hanging around.

Spot I used to hunt in Chewuch almost always had cattle during modern rifle deer season... prob depends on where you are.

Cattle dont bother me, in fact usually I can capitalize on their presence.    Sheep on the other hand.

Yeah, sheep are terrible on land. My neighbor decided to try sheep instead of chemicals to get rid of weeds. Within 2 weeks they turned his 5 acre trial pasture into dirt. It took me 2 years to bring that pasture back for grazing cattle. Ive seen places in Idaho where sheep have destroyed hundreds of acres. Cattle are much more environmentally friendly.
