Birthday elk!
«
on:
September 12, 2022, 07:18:28 PM »
Been hunting for 14 years off and on trying to kill an elk on my birthday and today it finally came together! Filled my eastside cow tag the state just so happened to bless me with
after 2 days of hard hunting in some nasty country and coming close multiple times on spikes and cows, having bulls screaming in my face chasing cows around in circles not allowing for a shot, I decided to take it easy today. Went to a different trail head at daylight and started hiking in, my legs were on fire and I wasn’t really feeling it. Decided I didn’t want to head all the way into plan A so went back to the truck and decided to head to plan B. About a mile down the road I had a couple elk cross about 100 yards in front of me. I parked and headed up the hill to try and cut them off. The whole time a bull was bugling just up from me. Shortly after I spot a completely different cow feeding in a great spot and snuck up to 30 yards and sent one. She went 50 yards and I heard her crash. Not often it happens like this but I’ll take an easy one now and then

So this isn’t something I’m used to
I think it was more work than just doing the gutless method in the field by the time I skinned her out and quartered to hang in the meat cooler. Thankful for such a cool day today, had her all taken care of before it broke 60.
