Grouse

Does anyone hunt grouse while out searching for elk (or mule deer)? I saw grouse everyday this year and had to wonder if anyone packs a gun to take advantage of the opportunity.

I usually keep a little .410 in the truck.

When I’m archery hunting I have a judo point for them.

Rifle/ML hunting they usually just scare me and I watch them fly away.

We killed more grouse than deer this year. We had 7-8 cooked up for dinner one night in camp. I carry a handgun for grouse either a Bond or my Judge, .410 in the truck.  Y grandson was wacking them all deer season.

started this year to occasionally carry a mark iv 22 pistol (lite version) with me for shooting grouse on slower days. I killed one and missed on a couple (I only try for head shots). timing never seems to be right though. When I have the pistol I don't want to use it and think its wasted pack weight - when I don't have it I wished I did. Also I haven't found a good way to carry it that's quickly accessible but stays out of the way from my primary objective (right hip already has a pistol on it for our cougar problem). I'm always also concerned about blowing an opportunity on big game when shooting at a grouse.

I pack a sling shot in my pack. No noise and it makes it more sporty than shooting them with a gun.

This cracks me up! I have nailed em with a sling shot multiple times and the only one I ever got I hit in the head. Maybe it's cuz I used marbles but any body hit they just laughed at me and flew off :tung:

Ya, sticks and rocks work, you don't  have to carry them and they are already suppressed

In my quiver is three arrows with broadheads and 2 arrows with judo heads.  Shooting grouse with a bow is good times.
I know I've lost it, let me know if you come across it

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Yep, 300 win mag right next to their head knocks them silly, just walk up and wring their necks.
Or just head shot.
