Rifle Sling Slipping
« on: September 25, 2022, 02:44:33 PM »
Hey guys,

I run a Remington 700 with a generic sling I got at Bass Pro. I always feel like my rifle is going to slide off my shoulder unless I hold onto the sling. Normally this is no big deal but I'd really like to try using trekking poles this season and this would require me to keep both hands on the poles.

Im trying to see if any of y'all have some recommendations on how to prevent my rifle from sliding down off my shoulder as it's always bouncing up against my backpack. Is it the sling? Is it just something I have to deal with?

Thanks!

Sew a big heavy duty button onto the very top of your shoulder straps so it is on top of your shoulder so the sling has it to catch on.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

Kifaru Gun Bearer or put a clip on your shoulder strap.  I've tried both and definitely prefer the gun bearer.

I use a kifaru gun bearer. Once you try it, you’ll be hard pressed to go back to a conventional sling.

A big plus is, when you start crawling around the thick alders helping your friend looking for that bear, you won’t have a sling getting hung up or having to remove your sling. It’s the bee’s knee’s.

I have a Quake Claw sling on my gun and my daughter's and they don't slip.  That said, I've been meaning to buy a Kifaru for some time now.

Safari sling is what I ended up with after running a regular sling and also the gun bearer

Safari sling......you don't even notice the weight and pretty much hands free.

I sewed on a strap with a button snap. I put the sling under that strap and snap it shut. It's hands free as long as you only use the sling but having a Harris bipod on messes up the system. Can't beat free though.

If your pack has a chest strap with buckle, just run the chest strap around your sling and buckle. Hands free, I also use a Quake Claw sling.

I tried a Gun Bearer, did not work for me, I could not stand to have the pocket hanging down. Lots of people do like them though.

 :yeah:

I have a couple of claws and they would be great without a backpack.  With a backpack on any type of uneven/unpredictable terrain they don't cut the mustard.  I felt like I was lifting my shoulder the whole time to keep it from slipping off.  Beyond frustrating, esp. in blown down timber.   I bought a gun bearer and have never looked back.
